I have an innokin itaste vv4 battery that has worked perfectly until yesterday. It just all of a sudden went berserk; the trigger lit up and started going through the battery status (green yellow red). Also, the battery display was flashing on and off. At regular intervals the display would show ID_MODE. It's been doing this all night and I can't turn it off. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Sounds like a common QC issue. Mine died of auto fire.
I would try removing the topper, plugging it in, and trying again to switch it off.
