Happened several times already since the big raid in 2011. Buyers used to be implicated, will be asked to go down for 'interview'. Mainly for statements to get evidence against the seller.
Vapers got to surrender their gear sometimes. Not sure whether they are still doing that now.

Likely.

And the Redditor who wrote that post joined just a few hours ago…no other record of this person whatsoever ….well chosen nick too (a nick with a message :))

So if I had an enemy in Singapore who I wanted to make trouble for, all I have to do is buy some eliquid or vaping gear and mail it to their address and the law will do the rest for me…interesting.

I'd posted this reply on another thread and I thought I'd bring it here and expand:

A healthy level of caution is good and necessary but let's avoid an overdose of paranoia. It tends to leave an unpleasant flavour behind.
The powers that be are pretty well informed of what's coming in and what the hardware and expendables look like without our mentioning.

This is a public forum, not a secure chat hosted on the Dark Net. We're here because they've got bigger fish to fry.
By and large we do our own thing and stay under the radar; we don't make a nuisance of ourselves and we're not out to put vape in anyone's face; we don't have a point to prove.

If you're here and they're here, how are you under the radar?

a healthy dose of paranoia does keep complacency from creeping in….and Im certainly not trying to rub anyones face in it…

sometimes it also helps to take a step back and look at a post in an analytical and critical way before leaping to conclusions.

Coming from a psychology background, I find the referenced post fascinating. The normal response of anyone who's one step from being incarcerated is anything but to draw attention to their plight….so to write a lengthy post detailing every step in excruciating and graphic detail is a bit puzzling to say the least.

However I do not dismiss the seriousness of the message and urge others not to either….

I hear you and, by no means, am I making little of this.

By staying "under their radar" I'd meant that we shouldn't make public debacles of our selves by vaping in crowded areas and areas clearly designated, "no smoking".

As you had pointed out, there is an excruciating amount of detail in that post. As a cautionary tale, I expect it's served a purpose.
But it's like there's an itch I can't scratch: There are some things about that post that I'm just skeptical about. Like, why Reddit? Most local who rant do so on a local site like HWZ or one of the pro-opp FB pages. Reddit is heavily American.

But, there IS a clear and present danger and we all should be aware and more careful. In the mean time, thanks for the share.

I don't take such a hard POV about what the authorities are doing. I feel that they are just doing their job based on the best information and policies that they have.
The dietary portion matters, for example, were based on research carried out but findings change; science is constantly evolving.
Other examples are the two-child policy back in the 70s and the casinos. People want to use these as examples of fickleness but the greater truth may be that times change, and we're lucky to have a government that knows how to change with the times.
I've worked in other countries and lived elsewhere. Once you've spent more than in this just a vacation somewhere, you'll start looking at and understanding the local socio-political issues. And we really are v fortunate to be here.

That vape is banned in so many geographies if most likely a testament to the financial muscle behind big tobacco. Thailand bans it. Malaysia, I personally think, is distracted. Indonesia has a local tobacco industry that still includes family-run businesses that, I think, has moved v quickly and invested into vape; I can't substantiate this and it's just a gut feeling.

But I ramble on. At the end of the day, no need to be a showboat, quit smoking, stay healthy and vape on guys.

P/S, just as I wrote "guys" I wondered about the gender of the members on this subforum... Any ladies here at all?

Exactly…they are sworn to uphold the country's laws.

Besides vaping gear is for adults…not for kids who haven't got a clue.

There is certainly a need to worry about such equipment falling into the hands of such youngsters who do it just because it's cool to blow clouds…that is the stupidest reason to take up vaping.

This is the best proven method so far to wean oneself off and stay away from 100% confirmed cancer causing tobacco sticks…much like nicotine gum or patches.

Wonder when this realisation will sink in.

Lots of people use reddit, it is a treasure trove of information. He was using a throwaway nickname (which is extremely common) and there's a handful of Singaporean vapers who go on there for discussions like what we're doing.

I was just sharing a piece of info which may be useful to our community, did not mean to stir any .... or cause undue paranoia, I apologize if sharing is frowned upon here.

Yah man. That is scary. Makes me paranoid and angry at the same time. Seriously, I don't wish to go back to cigarettes. If I could get rid of that hand to mouth habit, I would and never touch another vape gear again. Be safe guys. Hate to imagine this happening to me or other users.
