If vaping becomes needed I would definitely try unflavored first. Flavoring sensitivities can develop over time, at least they did in my case. I pretty much avoid all fruits now and vape a light mint/menthol blend which I found doesn't cause me any issues. I would be fine if going to unflavored was the only way I could vape, as it still will keep me from smoking. Good luck sorting this out!

Ok, so this has taken an unfortunate turn.

OP, if you are done with vaping I wish you the best of luck and hope your symptoms go away.

If you wish to continue vaping perhaps you should try unflavored as suggested, I would also suggest trying various pg/vg ratios, try just mouth inhales as opposed to lung inhales, maybe try vaping without nicotine(for anxiety/heart issues).

ETA: One of the best things about vaping is, if you want to, you can know EXACTLY what is in the liquid you are vaping.

Just say "I'm Batman" (or Batgirl) a lot more.

Seriously, too much VG bothers me too. I guess everything has repercussions. Safest stuff to inhale is clean air. So other than balancing your PG/VG ratio to whatever is optimum for you, checking for other vocal cord problems via doctors, vaping unflavored, low nic, low EFFECTIVE watts (too low is harsh too), what else can be said?

The nic level is the harshest part...more = harsher. Too low of watts and ineffective vaporization is harsh. Too high is hot/harsh. Then there's PG (harsher), and flavorings.

I had to go to bed before the discussion turned unfortunate. And today we have to take my mother-in-law to a doctor out of town, so I won't be back until evening.

Just back to say: my husband was sick last year and got almost laryngitis. He never completely lost his voice, but it was really bad for a couple of weeks. It took probably three months before he got his normal voice back. I looked up what causes laryngitis last night, and the main idea is irritation. I know sometimes during allergy season, people have trouble with their voices.

I think I will go back to unflavored for a while to see what happens. If that doesn't work, I'll try just PG/VG and check out those results. I'm not ready to give up the hand-to-mouth habit yet.

BTW, I think we would have to be very naive to say vaping (or ANYTHING!) is totally harmless. I've never said that. RCP and Dr. Farsalinos didn't, either. But I think we (and all of us here) do believe it's worlds better than smoking and endorse it as a quitting mechanism. Should we continue do it forever? I dunno.

I didn't bring this subject up, but since I jumped in, I want to thank everyone for the helpful and very civil responses. :)

Good luck @brekehan.

Thank you OP and Just me, hope all turns out o.k. Apreciate the insights into your probs with vaping and always open and interested to hear opinions and maybe factual, who knows, about side effects. By the way I can totally agree with you OP on the doctor thing, lets just get $ out of healthcare or maybe try Ayervedic medicine or some eastern philosiphy, I find it very interesting.

I smoked since I was 12. I quit smoking at age 34 and started vaping instead. I am now age 40 and quit vaping for almost 2 weeks now.

A few years back I noticed that my voice was getting raspy, especially immediately after vaping. I upped my water intake, I lowered my voltage from 4.2 to 3.7, I switched juices all over the place, including the so called 'organic extract' juices. Nothing seemed to have an effect. I just kind of lived with it.

Smoking analog cigarettes never effected my voice in such a manner. Not in more than 2 decades.

Now I quit vaping do to trouble breathing, reoccurring rashes, and extreme anxiety that all seemed to come crashing down in this last year.

I really expected my voice to recover after I quit. It hasn't. My voice is extremely raspy even though I haven't vaped in more than a week. I don't think it is ever going to recover.

Some trends I had while vaping:
) I used 3.7 to 4.2 volts most of the time.
) I started my vaping career at 2.4 ohms and preferred ~1.4 ohms for the last year.
) I used 50/50 juice up to 70PG/30VG, depending what the local stores had. I prefer more PG because I noticed high VG juices gave me a heavy chest feeling and breathing problems.
) Juices that left behind high amounts residue/ ruined atomizers quickly, made the problem worse in the short term.
) I used CVS organic cotton balls for wicking my rebuildable Kay Fun Lite.

Some Juices that Absolutely killed my voice and made it raspy in the same day:
) 'Grandpa's Beard' from Austin Vapor Technologies

I found this thread by searching the internet for people who have experienced the same thing. I have exactly the same issue with the voice (but not the rash and other symptoms).

I smoked for 20 years. In May 2016 (6 months ago) I quit smoking and started vaping. I vaped until September 2016 (vaped for 4 months).

I noticed that certain types of e-liquid affected my voice quite early on. I tried to identify the ones that did not and stick with them. But then, in September 2016 my voice became very hoarse indeed and I stopped vaping for a few days in order for it to heal before a important meeting I had. I didn't want to vape again until the voice healed.

It is now mid-November, 2.5 months later, and my voice still has not healed. I have not vaped, or smoked, at anything in the intervening time.

I fear that vaping has permanently damaged my voice. Some days are better than others. Some days I feel like my voice is on the way to returning. Then the next day I will barely be able to speak at all.

I have been searching the internet for some kind of cure or remedy. But to no avail so far. I am seeing a throat specialist soon having my consulted my doctor (who is useless and had no clue).

I notice that the OP is from a few months back. I wonder if there's been any improvement? I am starting to give up hope on that, though, as 2.5 months is plenty long enough to heal and there's been very little change.

I notice some irritation that effects my voice that I'm sure is from vaping. May be the irritant is heat from the vapor. Smoking effected my lungs quite dramatically in ways vaping does not. There can be allergic reactions where the body reacts to something that's not a threat. But if this is common and there are serious consequences I would have expected reports from physicians by now.

Funny... My voice Doesn't get Raspy after I vape. And if Anything, My Voice has gotten Better since I Quit smoking.

But then again, I wasn't much of a Singer either Before or After I started using an e-Cigarette. At least, that is what people Tell Me.

And my Lung Capacity has Improved Immensely.

It is No Big Thing to go out and Power Down on a 40 Mile bike ride today. And in 2015, I averaged 125 miles/week over 50 weeks of Cycling.

A Far Cry from getting winded when I would Hoof-it up 2 Flights of Stairs in 2009 when I Smoked.

I'm gonna chime back in on this one, since I've been out of the loop for several months. About the time this thread got started, I was having severe trouble with a pinched nerve that put me almost bedfast, and I couldn't get to the computer.

My slightly raspy voice remedied itself, not sure when, but it didn't last long. I didn't change liquid or equipment, as I vape the same old stuff on the same old hardware day after day. I had back surgery last week to correct the above-mentioned malady, and my voice was a bit raspy for several days after that, but all is well now.

I hope brekehan and londoner40 get a resolution.

Good to hear that your Raspy Voice resolved itself.

And I Hope your Pinched Nerve has gotten Better. It can take a Long Time. I have had Pinched Nerves in my Neck due to a Car Accident. And I Don't wish that on Anyone.
