Alert Preferences question!!

I am receiving alerts for every new thread created in a watched forum. After even one day I'll have half a hundred alert notifications.

This makes it extremely difficult to find the alerts for replying, likes, and quotes of threads I'm participating in.

How can I change this? I studied the preferences page thoroughly (or so I believe) and googled but could not solve this issue. Any help greatly appreciated!

When you Click the "Watch Thread" link, a popup will appear.:

... you can choose how to receive those notifications or not to receive notifications at all.

If you choose "New Threads", you'll receive a notice only when a new thread is created. If you choose "New Messages", you'll receive an alert for each new post, whether in a new thread or just a new post in an already-existing thread.

If you choose to receive notifications via Alerts, you'll see them through the "Alerts" link at the top right of any page next to your user name. If you check the "Emails" box, you'll receive emails.
