Got to work a little early yesterday morning. Since I didn't have to be at my desk for awhile, I parked myself outside in the smoking area to have a good vape before I went in. One of the other guys who vapes came out and we were discussing his gear. He just upgraded from an eGo battery to a Kanger subox and we were comparing his to my ipv D2.

While we were talking, a woman comes out, fires up one of her cancer sticks and proceeds to tell us, "my mother's lung specialist says those things are worse than smoking and they have antifreeze in them!"

I wasn't in the frame of mind to argue with her so I just told her, "go tell your mother's lung specialist that he needs to go do some more research."

With that, I took another big drag, exhaled a nice cloud and went back to the conversation with my fellow vaper. She got mad, stubbed out her cigarette and went back inside. My vaping buddy just shook his head and laughed. I figured it was a win for me since she didn't even finish her smoke. :D

I can't believe this stuff is still flying around, much less coming from doctors.

I would probably respond "Well, stupidity is much worse than actual knowledge!" :D

But, I'm old enough not to engage those who go through life looking for a fight.
I take a different approach to life.
For better or worse, it's just who I am.

If you say something to me, be prepared.
Because I am.

I will help you all I can if that's where the conversation goes.
Or I will disabuse you of what you think are facts, regardless of if you care or not.

I am never the one to walk away.
Because that's who I am.

Some may think that makes me an ........
But I prefer to think of it as helping humanity to be as enlightened as they can be.

Regardless, I know some will still disagree.
But their disagreement will not change me, nor my approach to life.

I am not a wallflower.
I am a butterfly of truth.

Worse in the sense that vaping is so much more enjoyable than smoking and so I want to vape all the time?

I don't miss the disgusting stench and lung cheese and shortness of breath and the chest pains and the thousands upon thousands of harmful chemicals in tobacco cigs.

Vape on, vapers. Vape on!

I remember waking up in the middle of the night a few years ago with what I could only describe as an asthma attack (no history of asthma/emphysema) Then it happened a few more times. This was 1 of the major factors that led me to say enough with cigarettes. When I see people argue that vaping is worse (or equal to) smoking cigarettes all I can think is...Good luck with that. Hopefully they will realize what they are advocating before it is too late to turn back.

    I hear ya.
I woke up, blind in one eye.
Turns out I had a small stroke during the night, causing permanent blindness. (AION)
Doctor said there is a 40-50% chance It will happen again in the other eye, within 5 years.
    He suggested I stop smoking.....

Yes, the world is full of stupid people....But we really don't need a new thread every time one of them speaks, do we?
As opposed to the 150,000th "Which Mod Is Best" thread?
Or the Tootle Puffers verses the Modwomper threads?
Or any thread that isn't 100% original knowledge regarding vaping?

We all have our experiences with the outside world. Good or bad, part of the forum is sharing them. Nobody forced you to open the thread and read it any more than anyone forced that woman in my original post to make ignorant comments about vaping.

    Or ya could've just said....

"Yea, I know! That's actually why I switched. I smoked two packs a day, for a year, and couldn't get ANY cancer at all. Hopefully the vaping does the trick!" :D

Oh, before I get accused of being insensitive to those battling cancer - I have personally watched very close loved ones be eaten and killed by it. It sucks really bad. I still think that would be a good response to a pushy smoker though.

When you study the world and the people on it you will find most people have strong opinions about things they know nothing about, care about paying lip service to values they do not possess, and when it comes to facing a reality uncomfortable to them they only care about doing nothing, refusing to accept any personal responsibility.

The person in question here is addicted to cigarettes and trying to rationalize their refusal to change their life.

Anybody who has smoked cigarettes knows how ....ing terrible they are for you, you don't need to be told by anyone, only a severely delusional person who has never had to do any physical labor could pretend otherwise.

I'm currently training at the best Muay Thai gym in Canada, the classes consist of non stop exercise for 2 hours. No one who smokes cigarettes would even make it through the 15 minute skipping warm up, never mind hundreds of reps of strength exercises stacked one after the other then hitting the pads for an hour.

Racehorse, comments like that are from people looking for an argument. It has nothing to do with being a smoker. If you had been eating a cheeseburger she probably would've had something to say about that, too. Or about what you drove to work.

I'm very sympathetic to smokers and put a lot of effort into helping them.

But, I'm old enough not to engage those who go through life looking for a fight. Its a waste of my emotional energy.

Anyone with half a brain has to know they don't have antifreeze  We would all be hospitalized or dropping dead left and right.

That's pretty much what I was going to say in reply to Racehorse. If it's a smoker asking questions about vaping, I'll spend as much time as I have, and tell them as much as they're willing to listen to. I even keep a folder in my car that contains about a dozen of the one-sheet CASAA flyers that I've handed to folks at flea markets.

I have too many irons in the fire at this point in my life to waste time trying to bend trees ot tilt at windmills. I will try to educate the ignorant; the willfully ignorant, not so much.

    Apparently yes?

I was a good sport player since high school until I managed to lost my stamina because of smoking. I didn't know that during that time. Now I know how cigarette can deterioate plysical strength. My health is improved a lot and I start to enjoy playing my fav sport again at nearly 50 years old age.

Willie; none are so blind as those that refuse to see

I had a similar debate with a smoker at a nearby senior citizens center.

When she said that is just as bad for you as smoking. I say that's not possible.

About 90% of this vape is Vegetable Glycerin and propylene glycol. Both of those are used in food every single day.

The other 10% is nicotine and flavor.

Now your cigarette they are called cancer sticks for a reason

Did you know when you smoke you are getting 5-7000 chemicals.

You are inhaling carbon monoxide, you are getting nicotine and other alkaloids, you are getting tar that causes smokers lung. The chemical that causes the paper to keep burning instead if going out as pipes and cigars will if you stop puffing is potassium nitrate (a chemical used in gun powder. They boost the nicotine of cigarettes by taking the stems, stalks and shreds from the floor make an infusion with water and spray this infusion on the tobacco to raise the nicotine. That is why getting off cigarettes now is much harder now than it was 15-20 years ago.

When I get asked about the "dangers" of vaping, I find some people are willing to listen, and they are usually somewhat incredulous since it flies in the face of all the propaganda they hear. But they listen. Some people will simply not listen. For whatever reason they are unwilling to accept any alternative view to the propaganda they hear. Personally I have no interest in beating my head against the wall with those people. It is hopeless and a waste of time and energy. And when people are rude, as the woman in question, I assume they are similarly unwilling to listen to alternative views, or the facts.

The one response I might give is .... "Please cite a credible source of your belief (that vaping is more dangerous than smoking)". I never, ever get a response because I know they can't have one. And at that point they know it too but will never acknowledge it. And I've used that response here when I often read propaganda repeated back, with no basis in fact.

ETA: I think the OP's response was perfect. Good for you. You have the satisfaction of knowing that wasn't your doctor that you have to rely on and deal with.

It has been a decade that health organization try to find the danger of vaping. What they say up to now is they need more time to see the side affect of PG, VG inhaling. It means to me they cannot find any danger yet. So, I think I make the right move, vaping on and waiting another decade if they find something to change my mind. :smokie:
