And that's probably a tad much I would cut about 1/4 - 1/3 inch more off each end.

you're so close man.. Have been following this tale, and I'm pulling for you. Can't really give much advice on the kayfun because I don't have one/haven't played with one yet.. but I'm gonna have my next shot in your honor and in the hopes that soon it all falls into place.
I hope you get it, I think your close but if you are getting burnt taste and smell then it's not wicking fast most likely. Try less wick I can't stress enough it doesn't need as much as it would seem to.

Just finished watching this. The more people talk about how easy this is, the more I want to kill myself. There is not one thing easy about it.
Looks much better, after you get some wick in there maybe lift that negative leg up a tad bit so it doesn't end up shorting looks pretty close from pic. I'm going to bet you get this working a lot better than the vertical coil. 
Did you fully saturate the entire wick and coil? Prob like 8-10 drops? Fill the tank and maybe take a few pulls without firing and let sit for a few. I'm also wondering if you've fully cleaned all the parts really good with dish soap/alcohol.

Yes. Fully saturated the wick. Waited 10mins after filling tank to try. Tank was thoroughly cleaned before my first build attempt.
At this point I think the KFL, Nemesis and Kanthal can go into the trash next to my Protanks that I tossed last week. I never realized how stupid I truly am until this experience.
For the record, I have now built 37 coils with no success, so I don't feel I am giving up to quickly.

I don't believe your stupid, some ppl just have a real pain getting the kayfuns to wick properly. Grab that tequila and watch the video I posted in my edited post. It will work sooner or later hopefully sooner. Wish I could give you a hand.

Well at least I'm no longer feeling alone at the "why don't I get this" table...I even bought pre-fabbed coils and wicks from Slowtech and still managed to screw up quite a few of those before I got a single coil working in my wife's IGO...scared to take mine apart from what it came built with from the factory because I fat-finger and hideously mangle everything I've touched to date (with one lucky exception).

I'm sure you already know this if your filling your tank all the way, you have to have some air in there for it to work.
For every device I have, using both kayfuns 3.1 and lite, I use a 1.7 ohm coil with a cotton wick at 8-10 watts. Great flavor and good vapor, an lower ohm coil seems to not wick so well. Once you burn the wick nothing left to do but tear it down a put another in.
