It's hard to explain something to people who don't want to understand. A billion people pay a lot of extra taxes during their productive years then a lot of them die young so they don't get much or any of it back. Billions more people benefit from that system. There are more smokers in China than anywhere. Is smoking a form of population control? A macro economic study that looks at what would happen if all the smokers switched would he helpful an not so hard to do. It might find there will be severe economic dislocations if it happened.
On the bright side legislators in PA are making a serious effort to roll back the 40% floor tax on ecigs that would put most vape shops out of business. I don't think they are trying out of compassion for anybody but it's better than nothing.
