I was told by C&A today to e-mail complaints about lumping e-cigs with smokers to mycruise@rccl.com C&A says they are being overwhelmed with complaints on this policy and with enough emails they expect it to be modified. I told her that by forcing me, a non-smoker, to inhale 2nd hand smoke was the same as holding a friend of Bill W meeting with an open bar. She agreed and then told me she used an e-cig also.

I sent an email to Adam Goldstein, President of RCL, a few hours ago and before I read your message here. I will now send a copy of it to mycruise@rccl.com too. I expressed my total disagreement with their new policy and also said "you are allowing your crew members to use their e-cigarettes inside their cabins and in the crew bar .. but you are not allowing your passengers to do the same?"

I understand a few people who had already sent emails have been contacted by Adam Goldstein's office and told they have received many complaints and are considering a change to the new policy.

The more of us who complain about their ridiculous new policy the better, I hope everyone will email them like we have.

In the "old" days smoking was allowed all over a cruise ship; in your cabin, in the theatre, even in the dining room. Those days ended long ago and now there are some cruise ships that dont allow smoking at all. Some other cruise lines allow smoking in a few outside areas or on your own balcony. Use to be you could smoke in the casino, now there are select nights when the casino is non-smoking and on some ships not allowed at all.

A lot of "cruisers" are switching over to the e-cig, I am one of them. I made the switch and after 40 years of smoking it was the best thing I have done in a long time! For me the change happened instantly, as soon as I took my first drag of my e-cig. I never intended it to happen, in fact figured I would hate the e-cig .. but dang it, what a surprise that it was GREAT. From that moment on I have been ihaving an affair .. with my e-cig, .. love it.

There are lots of cruise ship passengers who are smokers and so many of them would love to learn about the e-cig, not only will it improve their health but it will also make their cruise travels so much more enjoyable.

I hope other "cruisers" find this thread and make the switch I made.

Well I got a reply that said:
We appreciate your candid and valuable feedback regarding our enhanced
smoking policy.

At Royal Caribbean International, our priority is to provide an onboard
experience that is safe for all of our guests. Onboard policies, including
the new smoking policy, are implemented after conducting extensive research
to ensure that we continue to provide our guests with the award-winning
vacation experience they have come to expect from Royal Caribbean
International. Through this process, we found that many guests were
displeased with second hand smoke that emanated from guests smoking on
their balconies. Many of the policies on our ships are the result of
feedback we have received from our loyal guests and consumers. We are
confident that this new smoking policy will enhance the cruising experience
for our guests. At this time E-Cigarettes are following the same
restrictions as standard smoking and must be used in designated areas.

We thank you for the time you have taken to share your concerns regarding
this matter. We have certainly taken your comments into consideration, and
they have been shared with our leadership team for review.

We would appreciate the opportunity to welcome you onboard one of our
cruise ships in the future. Regardless of how you choose to spend your
vacations, we wish you and your family the best in your future travels.

Well I got a reply that said....

Nice canned response. Based on a conversation I had with their corp office this week, they're slightly overwhelmed right now. I have a feeling they'll either change their e-cig policy or turn a blind eye to vaping. I see in your sig on the CC forum that you just returned from FoS. We just got back from FoS the week before your sailing. We were very surprised and delighted to have seen LOTS of vapers onboard! :vapor: Keep up the good fight for us over on CC. I don't have the stomach for the incessant belligerent ......s over there, but do read the drama on a daily basis. I'm "cpup" on CC and my better half is "Froggy75". We're still loyal to royal and plan on continuing to vape where we feel like vaping. Perhaps we'll meet up soon. We cruise 2-4 times per year.

I rarely ever post on CC, nor do we even post on their cruise roll calls for the M&M's, I find most of the ardent CCers to be people I'd rather avoid, as evidenced by the ignorant and ill-informed type messages they've been posting about ecigs. They have no clue about ecigs or what is in our liquids .. but they're against them and they're experts about them, even though most of them have never even seen one in use!

I agree with this about a lot of that forum. That being said I have met some great people from the M&M thread, several people I am still friends with years later. The couple we cruised with last week is from England. We met them through CC about 10 years ago and have become good friends.

Well today I received a phone call from the executive office telling me that Royal would not be changing their smoking policy, BUT they were looking into a policy for e-cigs. The response they have receive has demonstrated the possibility that e-cigs might need to be viewed separately from smoking. She stated that once the review was completed, she would call me back to advise me of any changes made.

I received a call from Adam Goldstein's assistant, she told me that as of now the policy would stay as they wrote it but that Adam wanted me to know they have received "some" other emails from e-cig users and that they are "interested" in those emails .. but that no change was going to be made as of now and that if they ever do change it they would let me know.

I got the impression they have not received very many emails from ecig users, but they have received a LOT of emails from non-smokers congratulating them about the new January 1 policies. I wish all of the ecig users who cruise would email RCI, I'm not so sure they know how many of us there are.

Wow, that is totally different than what they told me. I was under the impression that they had received many complaints from e-cig users. But the more that they get, the better.

email sent as we had booked our first cruise with RC back in may, and that cruise departs in November. What Vape friendly cruise lines would be good to look into for future cruises?

Princess supports ecigs, their written policy says ecigs are allowed everywhere on their ships except in the main dining room and the theatres. We use to cruise on Princess but we switched to RCI 10 years ago. Glad you sent them an email, the more who email them in support of ecigs the better :)

this is what I emailed

My Husband and Myself booked our first cruise with your company for this
November. Today my travel agent emailed me in regards to your vapeing
(e-cigarette policy) change. I am disappointed to find that your company is
treating vapeing as smoking and wish you would read the recent research
that has been published.

In the future my travel dollars will be spent with companies that are vape
friendly.

I am not expecting to be able to vape at the dinner table or in the
theater ect, However having to go across the ship to an outdoor smoking
area and stand with those that are smoking is not very pleasant (since I
switched to my personal vaporizer the smell of tobacco smoke is not
appealing )

Vapeing is not smoking, there is no fire, no ash, no smoke, no lingering
smell. Please reconsider your decision to include vapeing with smoking

Thank You

This is the response I received

Dear Ms. Tanner:

policy will enhance the cruising experience for our guests.

We thank you for the time you have taken to share your comments regarding
this matter. Rest assured that your comments have been shared with our

our ships so we may demonstrate why Royal Caribbean International is the
most preferred cruise line in the world.
