Hi, I have been vaping for over a year. During that time I lurked on this forum. Reading this post made me post my mandatory 5 posts in the new members area so that I can post here.
I have been on 2 cruises since vaping. I had no issues vaping in my room or balcony (who would know!), I also vaped on any open deck. Now, I did not do this if I was in a lounge by the pool and someone was right next to me. I did not and do not want to vape in the dining rooms or in the theaters. Who wants to see a cloud of vaper when they are eating or trying to watch a show.
I am a Diamond member with Royal Caribbean and received an email a few months ago about their new smoking policy which lumped in ecigarettes. No more smoking/vaping on balconys. I have a b2b cruise scheduled starting at the end of this year and going into next year. I guess I would be able to vape on my balcony for 1/2 my cruise.
Reading this thread prompted me to email RC about the new policy. Here is their response. In one way I am not surprised at the canned response, but I am disappointed. In the future I will consider cruising on another line. Oh, and they did not even do a good job with cut and paste since the response cut the last letter off my name.

Dear Ms. xxxxxx:
Thank you for your email. We apologize for the delay in our response. More customers than ever before are choosing the convenience of email as their primary mode of communication. As a result, the turnaround time for responses has increased. We sincerely regret any inconvenience this may have caused.

We appreciate your interest in Royal Caribbean International and especially for taking the time to provide your valuable feedback regarding our smoking policy and e-cigarettes. As our policies and procedures are based on feedback provided by our guests, we truly appreciate your candid comments. Please know your inquiry has been forwarded to appropriate department manager for further review.

As a Diamond member of our Crown & Anchor Society, Ms. xxxxxx, we thank you for being one of the 50 million guests we have had the pleasure of welcoming onboard! We are eager to show you the personalized Gold Anchor Standard service that keeps our guests loyal to Royal Caribbean International, and we look forward to sharing millions of wonderful memories to come. We truly look forward to welcoming you onboard again soon.

I just took a 3 day "booze cruse" to Ensinada from LA California on the Carnival Inspiration, their policy is no vaping anywhere you can't smoke, including rooms (not that that stopped me). you can smoke/vape at the club, most of the casino and at two of the indoor bars plus the right side of the ship on the pool deck. I saw three other vapers, two using eGos and one using some VV mod with what appeared to be a RDA (I only caught a glimpse of it in a crowded hall leaving a show and couldn't catch up with the guy.)

Just returned from a Princess cruise .. we are Elite on Princess but have only cruised on Royal Caribbean for the past 8 years. Going back to Princess this time was a REAL treat! Not only did we see many things that were much better than they were on Princess 8 years ago but everything was much better than things have been on Royal Caribbean, in our opinion.

And YES, I vaped many places on Princess. I brought 2 Reo's with me and wow what a sensation they caused. Many passengers came up to me and asked me about it. I assumed they didn't even know what an ecig was, so I started explaining that it's a box form of an ecig and every single time the person would interrupt me and say "oh I use an ecig, but have never seen one like you're using and I've been watching you use it and I want one!" I can't tell you how many different people asked me if they could "try" my Reo. Luckily I had an extra drip tip that I switched out whenever someone wanted to try it.

For the past year or so we've felt that things on RCI have been going downhill. We were on a 2 week transatlantic from Europe the first 2 weeks of November and were very disappointed. RCI has cut and cut so many little things and those things are now adding up to bigger things. And then, the final straw for us is Royal Caribbean's ecig policy that starts on January 1, and so we have decided to stop cruising with them! We have one RCI cruise in January that we had already paid in full so we'll go on that one but that will be the last one for us .. we have 9 other RCI cruises booked and we're cancelling them.

This wasn't an easy decision for us, we've had over 100 cruises on RCI and are Pinnacle members ... BUT nonetheless we will be cruising on Princess after the January RCI cruise. In fact we booked 5 more Princess cruises while we were on this cruise. We didn't decide to leave RCI just because of the new ecig policy, but that added to all of the cut backs and changes that RCI has been making that we feel Princess is much better in all areas compared to RCI.

My wife and I really enjoyed Princess, Great cruise and no issues vaping anywhere (except dining room and theater, but honestly if you stealth vape in the theater and don't blow out a big puff, no one cares) It made the cruise that much more relaxing. Nothings better than laying in a lounge chair at night with a blanket, watching a feature film under the stars while being served milk and cookies while vaping away.. so relaxing and amazing. We are planning all current future vacations on Princess, the vaper's friendly cruise line.

Do you book Princess on-line or through a TA?

I stopped using TA's a long time ago, if you use a TA you can usually get extra perks, but I give those up because I prefer to manage my own bookings. I have a certified vacation planner at Princess, she's great, she knows my preferences and she takes great care of my bookings, changes, etc. Her husband uses an ecig :)

We cancelled all 9 of our Royal Caribbean cruises last week, including the one in January. Instead we are going on 2 different Princess cruises in January, one out of Ft Lauderdale and one out of Houston. In total we have 6 cruises booked with Princess over the next year and we plan to book even more.

I got an email from a friend of mine who cruises on Royal Caribbean .. she and her husband had just returned from 3 weeks on the Vision of the Seas. They cruise quite often but she said they are now going to leave Royal Caribbean and will probably come to Princess .. neither of them have ever vaped, that's not why they are leaving RCI .. they said they're leaving because they feel RCI has made too many cuts over the past year and they want a more upscale cruising experience. Plus they are VERY upset that RCI cancelled their contract with FOX News .. might seem like a little thing but it is very important to them as they are very politically active conservatives.
