I was wondering if A kings wife is said to be the Queen. Why is Queen Elizabeths husband called a Prince??

When a female Royal family member gets married, and her title is higher (Queen Elizabeth ) than the man she marries (a Prince) ... She keeps her title and the male doesn't/can't take hers, he has no authority. She is of the highest rank.(Queen Regnant)
Her husband will never be a King, only her elder son will become King when she passes etc... down the line. If and when Prince William becomes King, his wife Kate will become Queen, only in title with no authority.
