When I quit smoking and started vaping 6 months ago, I detested the smell of smoke. I remember sitting in a very smoky bar and the smoke was making me ill.

Now I really like the smell of smoke. Living here in China where about 80% of men smoke, it's hard to avoid it. But I enjoy the smell. I'm not sure why I like it, it just smells good. And I like it when my smoking friends come to my apartment. I say - thank you for smoking.

How do others feel about the smell of smoke now?

I started vaping on August 19th, 2010. At first it didn't bother me...now is another story. I was in a casino tonight that allows smoking all over the place. I had a gentleman sit 2 seats down from me and the air conditioner vent was blowing all the smoke right to me. I had to move. When I got home, I had to take some allergy meds to stop my stuffy and dripping nose. I can't hardly stand the smell anymore.

it depends on the type of tobacco. I don't know exactly what the difference is between cigarettes, but I do know that some types smell really nice and others smell awful. I don't think I could explain it without resorting to synesthesia, and I don't think anyone would get that the orange dots cigarettes smell kind of like BO and brown-grey-blow waves smell good. It's the same type of smell as coffee, tea, soap, a nice fragrant fire, etc. It smells good but not in a foody or perfumey way. Wish I could figure out some of the smells so I could order them as a tobacco liquid!

IF your trying to get away from anologs and someone sparks up next to you its just annoying. Now that you tasting things better and have gone a couple days without a smoke you get tempted to taste a annolog so bum one and all you taste is the ammonia that they process them with. Maybe its me or the menthols I use to smoke but I swear that is all I tasted. 2 drags and out it went. Knowing that I'll just move away from a smoker. Till they find out for themselves they can have my share of taxes and poison.

You have synesthesia Stillalive? Fascinating. Not that I know what you mean from that perspective but I can relate to the some smell better than others bit.
I always hated the smell of my husbands cigarettes but didn't mind the smell of menthol cigs or other milder types.
Like someone said though - cigarette smoke is not repulsive to me now but stale smoke has always and will always smell unpleasant to my nose.
I do know of some ex smokers though who do still enjoy the smell of smoke.

The smell of fresh smoke is kind of fragrant and cloying... whereas the smell of stale smoke (like when you've got people smoking indoors), is pretty disgusting

I go along with that one. Since I started vaping close to a year ago, I've never thought the smell of smoke was bad. Now the way a smoker's breath and clothes smell, well... that's pretty gross.

yesterday I walked out of a store and someone had just put out on their cig on the way in or walked by smoking (they weren't around anymore) but JEEZ the smell was still hanging around and before I could stop myself I did the hand waving in front of my face that all smokers have seen before. LOL
Guess that means I have become one of them, a non-smoker! Yippee
I will try to keep my fake cough, eye rolling and hand waving to a minimum.

I don't mind the smell of cigarettes when they're being smoked but I hate the smell of them in the ashtray and clinging to hair, clothes, furniture, etc. I can smell someone's cigarette smoke from yards away now but it's not an unpleasant smell to me. Having said that, if I'm sitting in a room full of smokers, it's a bit too much and it gives me a headache.

I refuse to become a strident anti-smoker. When I have guests who smoke, out come the ashtrays. I will not make them feel uncomfortable; they get enough of that nonsense everywhere they turn.

""Fresh" smoke, from cigars, pipes, or quality cigarettes has a wonderful smell, to me.

Stale smoke, old smoke, much smoked in cars or homes, and smoker's jackets (including some of mine I just dug out of the closet) smell bad. But it never smelled good. I usually couldn't smell stale smoke (cause I was usually smoking) but I remember places where it was strong (like enclosed smoking areas) being pretty stinky, even as a smoker. And you know the smell when you haven't smoked for a while, and you take your old leather jacket out of the closet...

It's interesting- some say that the taste of smoke gets bad too. I haven't smoked a whole cigarette since I started vaping, but have taken drags on friends cigs on three occasions. Marlboro Red was GREAT, Camel unfilter was WOW. Last time I stole a drag, though, was a local brand of filtered light thing, and it absolutely gagged me. None were as good as RY4 though.

I don't dislike smoke, or smoking. But all in all, I'll stick to vaping.

Best,
Ande

When I first quit smoking and started vaping I liked the smell of cigarette smoke. A year later I avoid it just like other nonsmokers. If someone is smoking outside a store I'll stay as far away from them as possible. I don't mind the smell of pipe tobacco, and a good cigar doesn't bother me as long as it's only for a short period of time.

I was one who kept smoking because I loved the taste- and the few times I would quit for a few weeks before I would sit beside my smoking family and tell them to exhale on me. i CRAVED the smell of it and the taste.

Now, I like standing next to a smoker, WHILE they are smoking- but not afterwards. Last night I was cleaning up after a banquet, and I walked outside to take out the trash and was making sure there was no trash on the ground. I walked into one area where the caterers were at and said "boy I can smell the smoke here" and my son said "this is where all the smokers were standing, they had a bucket for their butts, but THIS is where they were standing- HOW did you know?"

They had been gone a few hours, so it was the 'stale' smell.

I never particularly liked the smell of the cigarette burning, worse when it hangs around. Haven't smoked in my house in almost 20 years, thus no one else did either. I have a garage and that was bad enough. But I'm tolerant of smokers and don't make a big fuss, although I can't sit next to someone with a lit cigarette, I don't walk away from them if I happen to be outside with them vaping, I will move so the smoke doesn't go directly at me. I don't want to make them feel like the rest of the world does, like second class citizens.
