What is the resistance of the coil that was in the Apex when your mate tried it on your Evod. Did the Evod work with that coil?

Most evods will not fire if you have a coil below 1.5Ω. But if the protection circuitry is not working (and you are using a coil that is too low) it is possible the that circuits have been fried.

Will any other juice attachment work on the Evod, or is the battery "dead"?

According to innokin, "The iSub Apex is compatible with all 2.0Ω, 0.5Ω and 0.2Ω iSub coils which are made with high quality 100% Japanese organic cotton for fast wicking and pure flavors."

Theoretically, the Evod should have been able to fire a 2 ohm coil, but not a 0.5 ohm or 0.2 ohm coil.

It's possible that you ruined the electrical connection between the 510 center pin to the battery when you attempted the pin adjustment. I doubt that firing the sub-ohm coil ruined the battery, as it has protection circuitry.
