eGo One battery gets hot while charging

I just purchased an eGo One and charge it with the supplied cord and adapter. I notice the bottom of the battery gets hot within minutes of plugging it in. Is this normal? Do I have a defective battery? I am a newbie and am looking for the help of the veterans.

It depends on how hot it's getting. A battery getting warm while charging is not unusual. If it's practically too hot to touch, this is bad.

Make sure you're not charging off your computer battery. If you can, charge from a wall adapter. If you can't, be sure your computer is plugged into the wall while your ecig is plugged in (if working off a laptop).

If your battery is getting very hot, you may indeed have a defective battery and it should be returned/exchanged. Warm is fine.
