FDA announces third so-called Public Workshop on Electronic Cigarettes and Public Health to be held June 1 & 2.
June: A Public Workshop ? Electronic Cigarettes and the Public Health

April 3 deadline for requesting to present, and May 20 deadline for requesting to speak at public comment period (which were by far the most informative and objective portions of FDA’s first and second so-called workshops).

Sounds like we may not see the final deeming regulations for quite awhile?

I would hope so but then there is this bit.

The information presented and discussed during the workshop series is not intended to inform the Agency’s rulemaking related to deeming additional tobacco products to be subject to the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act) (Deeming tobacco Products to Be Subject to the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, as Amended by the Family Smoking Prevention and tobacco Control Act; Regulations on the Sale and Distribution of Tobacco Products and Required Warning Statements for Tobacco Products; Proposed Rule, 79 FR 23141, published April 25, 2014). All comments regarding the proposed rule were to be submitted to the agency by August 8, 2014 (Docket No. FDA-N-0189).

So then what is the point of this?

EDIT: We really need a shrug emoticon
EDIT: :)

Yep we do lol.

I assume It's to give the perception they are actually willing to listen to studies and arguments from both sides and that they are open to critical thinking. In reality, they already know what they are going to do and don't care. The fact they refuse to change the substantial equivalence date is a good indicator of this.

Then again I have always been a bit of a pessimist.

Technically, that is true, as FDA's 3 junk science workshops on e-cigs were/are intended to further misrepresent the scientific evidence on e-cigs, further scare the public, and further lobby for FDA's proposed deeming regulation (so the agency can ban >99.9% of vapor products and give the e-cig industry to Big Tobacco).

The FDA finally posted (over the weekend) the full agenda for its June 1 & 2 e-cig event.
http://www.fda.gov/downloads/TobaccoProducts/NewsEvents/UCM448379.pdf

Just as with the two previous FDA e-cig workshops, most of the invited presenters are Big Pharma and/or DHHS financed e-cig prohibitionists and/or propagandists.

Since the FDA cannot win an objective debate on the scientific evidence about e-cigs, they've invited lots of their unethical funding recipients to misrepresent the scientific evidence (while refusing to allow many leading experts to present).

The FDA conference is ongoing, and is on webcast.
June: A Public Workshop – Electronic Cigarettes and the Public Health

In the first sessions, Legacy's Dave Abrams and Reynolds' Geoffrey Curtin have presented the survey data rather objectively, while FDA/NIH funded UCSF's Lauen Dutra (Stan Glantz' colleague), CDC's Brian King, and NIDA funded Richard Miech exaggerated survey findings to confuse and scare (especially regarding teen use).

Unfortunately, all of those presenters have advocated the FDA's deeming regulation (that would ban >99.9% of nicotine e-cigs now on the market), which is why they were invited to present.
