First clearomizer --burnt taste

I just received my Amp XL kit (medium battery) with a clearomizer. Every time I pick it up to vape, it's a burnt taste for the first 2-3 hits, and then every 5-6 hits after that it starts up again. I've tried rolling it around before I vape to get the wick wet, no dice. I'm using a PG e-liquid. Any help would be appreciated!
