My husband just mentioned copper since that is what our water pipes in our home a made of... Seems a reasonable substitute but copper is dang expensive around here.

I wouldn't advise Copper. I believe it reacts badly with e-liquid. Not a safe option.

If I were in your position, I'd try a Vivi Nova with a metal tank. Do some research, because the vivi novas are not a good vape right out of the box (mostly, they just need to be cleaned to work right). But apart from not knowing your juice level and possibly getting more dry hits from not actually seeing the wick swirling around in liquid, it seems like a very viable option.

If you like cartos, the Cartomator is available in polypropylene (as opposed to polycarbonate) that isn't supposed to react with juice. But I haven't tried it. I was about to order one when I switched to vivi novas.
