Im using the smok alien with tf-v12 tank anyone know any batteries that I could likely find at a local vape shop? Im not sure what is good and what isn't, thanks!
With the TFV12?? Which coil head are you using and what watts, the watts will be the deciding factor, and though the Alien 220w says its 220watts, it is a mis-representation, not a true 220w device, lower your voltage in your batteries is drained the higher your amps become. The Alien is one of the worst as it drains batteries down to 2.8v per battery, lowering its max watt output at those low voltages.
Up to 100watts - Samsung 30Q 3000mah 20amp CDR
Up to 125watts - Sony VTC5A 2500mah 25amp CDR
Up to 150watts - LG HB2, HB4, or HB6 1500mah 30amp CDR <- Nothing on the market in an 18650 format has a higher CDR than these 3, if the label says 35 or 40amps, it is just mis-advertisement just like the Alien 220W, they are re-wraps of B and C Bin batteries the big 4 manufacturers (LG, Samsung, Sony, and Panasonic/Sanyo) said didn't pass muster to be labelled an authentic A Bin battery
To run higher than what I have listed with the Alien 220w, you could get away with swapping batteries at 50% charge, in that instance, and only that instance
Up to 120watts - Samsung 30Q or any other 20amp battery (any rewrap that isn't a Big Name Brand, assume is a 20amp battery)
Up to 150watts - Sony VTC5A, or the LG HD2, HD2C, HD4 25amp batteries
Up to 175 to 180watts - LG HB2, HB4, HB6
Regulated Mod Amp Draw Calculator <- Regulated Mod Amp Calculator, simple usage, input your watts, how many batteries, click calculate, the calculator uses 3.0v per battery in its calculations though, but the formula is quite simple
Watts Set/Lowest Voltage Before Error or Mod Shutdown/0.9 (or 90% for control board efficiency)=Max Amps
As stated, the Alien depletes batteries down to 2.8v, X2 batteries that is 5.6v lowest available
Assuming for example purposes for that TFV12, about 140watts set
140watts/5.6v/0.9=27.7778amps needed at lowest voltage
140watts/7.4v (3.7v per battery or about 50% charge left)/0.9=21.021amps needed
Buying batteries, you will be better off buying from actually trusted vendors that are most times authorized authentic resellers/wholesalers online, do not buy from Amazon or Ebay (risk of getting fake clones is very high)
