So here is the quote from Tom Frieden that DrMA posted:
<quote>
In public health, to succeed, you do whatever it takes. Politics and science are both necessary ingredients of interventional epidemiology.

<end quote>

Frieden's politics are well known to us. Persue your agenda at all costs and by any means necessary. No matter how sneaky, deceitful, or wasteful, and with no concern for collateral damage or integrety. In other words, as in Tom Frieden's tweet, "you do whatever it takes."

Contaminate science. Peddle influence. You name it, if it serves the agenda, it's a useful tool. Waste resources. Undermine public confidence. Endager lives. Ends justifying means taken to extremes.

This is such an evil statement. While true, on the surface, it's an enabler to all kinds of abuse.

It is true that action by the CDC must take into account both scientific and political concerns.
However, these concerns are in no way equal.
Science, and ONLY science, should determine whether or not action should be taken.
Science, and ONLY science, should determine which courses of action are most likely to be successful.
Politics should determine which of the courses of action will be implemented (or at least proposed) since it will ultimately determine which course of action will actually go into effect. Budgets, and our way of government will restrict the options available, will direct the funding, etc. of any proposed program, and our system of government is supposed to provide feedback such that only solutions acceptable to the governed are implemented.

By stating something which is, at one level true, yet can be interpreted to give free reign to using politics to drive the entire process he is espousing one of the worst kinds of evil.

Perhaps next we'll be hearing about the benefits of "interventional eugenics". Didn't work so well in the 40's, but I'm sure that was just because they didn't get the politics right.

the irony is that he did some anti-sugar "work"......

Quote from Stanton Glantz:

“These tactics are strikingly similar to what we saw in the tobacco industry in the same era,” Glantz stated in a press release. “Our findings are a wake-up call for government officials charged with protecting the public health, as well as public health advocates, to understand that the sugar industry, like the tobacco industry, seeks to protect profits over public health.”

Putting the UCSF label on that particular guy was not accidental ;)
Also note how FDA and CDC are both propping the same ladder. I debated for a while which one should be on top. Decided on CDC because, well... this thread is about Frieden

What I like best about that image is the immense implacable size of science compared to the puny efforts to hide it or hold it back. There is no stopping Truth -- once it is known, it cannot be un-known. :) It may take some longer than others to accept it, but it's like trying to hold back the ocean -- it simply cannot be done. Galileo was nearly burnt at the stake for speaking the truth, so he recanted; he knew the truth was still the truth, and would eventually be known.

How a man that fat has the NERVE to say ONE WORD about health, I will never understand -- nor why anyone would listen to such a blob on the subject of health!

Pot, meet kettle.

Andria

See, tobacco does cause health risks. He's gotten fat off the money he made from people smoking.

Oh dear, our Dr. found out that industries have profit as their purpose..... wondering what's his take on the Tobacco Control Industry or the Healthcare Industry.
