ECF now has an IRC server, for use by our members.

    Here's how to connect:

    1. Download an IRC client. I recommend mIRC, as it is a very easy-to-use client, and it is free. Download it from mIRC: Internet Relay Chat client and install it.

    2. Run mIRC by double-clicking on the mIRC icon on your desktop or in your Windows Start menu. You should see the Connect window below which you can use to connect to IRC.

You will need to enter something for your Full Name and Email Address. These do not have to be your real full name and email address.

You will then have to choose your Nickname and Alternative nickname. These are the names by which other people will know you on IRC.

Now go to the top menu:
File >> Select Server >> >> Add >> [fill text as in pic] >> hit Add button. Alternately, you can press Alt+E to bring up this menu.

Enlarge the image below by clicking it and copy in the text in the Add window.

You can now click OK on that panel, and go back to the Connect section, and then click the Connect button and mIRC will connect to your chosen server.

3).When you join the ECF IRC server, you will automatically join #ecf. This is the default channel. You can join any channel you want from here. To do this, type /join #channelhere. To see a list of pre-made channels type /list.

Once you have connected to a server, your mIRC Favorites window will pop up. This window stores a list of your favorite channels and allows you to join them quickly and easily.

You can type in the name of a channel, such as #ecf, or you can select a channel from the list. You can then click the Join button and mIRC will join your chosen channel.

You can now type in a message, such as "Hello to all you good people! :)", press the enter key, and hopefully you'll receive a few greetings in return!

    4).
Registering your nickname is very easy and simple, once you are connected to the server.

Simply type "/nickserv register password email" Password for the password you want and email for a valid email address.

Once you have registered your nickname, type "/nickserv identify password".
The command /ns will give you the same result as typing /nickserv.

    5. How to setup Perform on connect.

Perform on connect will perform any commands you want whenever you join a server.

To set it up, go to mIRC Options, and go to the Options tab. Click Perform.

In this box, you can put in your Nickserv identify commands, channel join commands and any other commands you may need.

Make sure Enable Perform on Connect is checked, and the All networks is selected in the drop-down box, if the ECF IRC is the only IRC server you will be joining.

In my Auto-perform commands, I have it to identify with Nickserv, and it also joins me into #modders and #support.

Congratulations! You have just connected to an IRC network, joined a channel, and sent your first message!

The world of IRC are now yours to explore. Good luck and have fun!
