I needed more air flow from my nautilus mini, its almost the same for the regular nautilus.
u can keep the afc ring off to keep open all air holes or drill out existing holes larger on the ring and/or base.
u could also drill out an extra 3 holes on the afc ring to match up the holes on the base.
lots of options for the diy person to get more air.
i can now increase the power to the mini w/out getting burnt due to more air, imo.

tools needeed:
small screwdriver
vise or vise grips - something to hold on to the afc ring
rubber mallet or hammer whichever u have
7mm diameter rod, drill bit, allen key or similar

USE SMALL SCREWDRIVER TO PUSH OUT CENTER PIN, DONT LOSE THE SPRING

VISE IS TOUCHING PROTRUSIONS ON AFC RING, KEEP BASE FREE FROM VISE
DONT SQUEEZE TO HARD ON VISE JUST ENOUGH TO GRAB THE RING
YOU WILL GET THE FEEL FOR IT AFTER A COUPLE OF TRYS

I HAD A ALLEN KEY ON HAND, DONT KNOW THE SIZE BUT ITS
7MM=1/4" DIAMETER

allen.jpg

IF DIAMETER OF TOOL IS TO LARGE IT WILL NOT PASS THE CHAMBER WITHIN THE BASE
I DAMAGED MINE AS YOU CAN SEE BUT NO HARM AS IT STILL WORKS

INSERT ALLEN KEY OR WHATEVER YOU HAVE THATS 7MM
AND TAP IT UNTIL BOTTOM BASE IS REMOVED.
MINE CAME OUT WITH ONE HIT

CAREFULLY REMOVE AFC RING
THERES 2 BALL BEARINGS SO DONT
LOSE THEM IF YOU WANT TO REASSEMBLE

YUP LOST A BALL BEARING

REINSERT CENTER PIN.
USE RUBBER MALLET TO INSERT BASE INTO THE TOP.
IN BELOW SETUP ITS USING ALL 4 AIRHOLES TO DRAW AIR IN.
YOU ARE STILL LIMITED BY AIR INTAKE HOLE IN THE COIL BASE CENTER POST.
YOU CAN KEEP IT LIKE THIS OR DRILL THE HOLES OUT ON BASE AND/OR AFC RING & REINSTALL AFC RING

I was able to drill all the way through the base / top / AFC assembly to create 2 opposing air holes like this:
- disassemble the mini nautilus, leaving those 3 parts together
- use vise grips to hold it under a drill press so the drill points straight in to the center, perpendicular to the axis of the cylindrical assembly
- I used a drill slightly larger than the hole on the AFC.
- drill through the AFC hole and the underlying hole to enlarge them
- making sure the drill bit hits on the center of the opposite hole inside the barrel, continue drilling until you have two opposing holes
- clean with compressed air
- rotate ring with 2 pair of pliers - there may be drill shavings making it hard to turn by hand until they are knocked loose
Thanks for the inspiration, Vincom!
