I did not see this question posted anywhere, so sorry if it's been covered. Are the caps for the 8ml and 5.5ml the same, just with a longer tube for XL vs standard cartos?

That is correct, the caps are exactly the same. The only difference is the 8ml XL has a longer tube for use with the XL size cartos.
