My first vape purchase was a Kanger Starter Kit. I must say, I have since patted myself on the back for a wise purchase. I am a low maintenance vaper; I try to keep my costs down and therefore, don't go in for a bunch of gear. I am perfectly content with this setup. I find it very easy to use.

Here is a nice 6-page ECF thread that specifically speaks to the Kanger battery: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/ego-type-models/409527-kanger-evod-battery.html

Within that thread I found this helpful review: eVod by Kanger Review

I don't use variable voltage at this time and since I have never used it, I don't miss it. Maybe once I try it, I will be singing a different turn, but for now, fixed voltage is cool with me.

Good luck!

So, ditto.
A starter kit with an EVOD battery and clearo would be a good move.
You get the same results buying an EGO battery and charger and EVOD clearomizers separately - which would let you choose a variable voltage version battery if you want to go that one extra step...
But basically - good plan, and most people like the EVOD clearomizer
