Kanthal vs Nichrome - Why is Kanthal more popular?

    Kanthar seems to have become the dominant choice for coil building. Is there a reason for this? What makes it better than Nichrome?

    I certainly can't speak for anyone else, but perhaps that's like asking why I like Audis and you like BMWs. ;-)

    Is it "better", or just a slightly different approach to a similar result? In direct comparison, how fine do we split hairs?

    In my case, they both do the job, and common values are similar... but Kanthal metallurgy, because I've spent more time studying it, I am more familiar with expectations and results.

    Nichrome wire like Nicrothal 80 runs at a lower resistance so it could be difficult to make a coil that fits in an rba or RDA unless you were to go very sub ohm.
