I don't know if you know this but we have all tried this and they still twist things and are against e-cigs....
There was a post about 6 months ago on the ALA Facebook page that they posted in regards to coupons being given away by Groupons for an e-cig kit and they went ballistic...this lead to about 99% lamb-lasting them and giving such stories as you ask for....but it did not good... The ALA cannot be convinced, it seems- they have to much to lose from all of the $$ they receive from big pharmaceutical companies that are going to lose profits if e-cigs replace their ineffective cessation products.... Just sayin'

I am aware of this but we need to tell them our side of the story social media is a two way street. If they want people to quit I thought they might like to hear a bunch of success stories. Or we can let them just hear from BigPharma they we speak for us if we don't speak for ourselves.

Oh to be young and carefree again...... those were the days.......wrapped in the romantic bliss of naivety. It was really good until reality smacked me upside the head.

The ALA and big pharma are one and the same The ALA is simply a part of the PR division, along with the ACS, AHA, Tobacco Free Kids, etc, etc.

    Happy dreams

Somebody once told me that my congressman would never listen to me if I ask him to help make poker legal.

Politicians will often listen, and the degree to which they listen is somewhat dependent on how far up the totem pole they are.

For instance, we have seen many examples of city council people listening.
We have seen them change their minds and their votes when presented with the truth.

But as they go further up the ladder of power, they become more resistant to hearing anything that doesn't speak greenbacks.
Or that puts their hard-earned "relationships" in jeopardy.

But the ALA is committed to their position, as they feed off the teat of Big Pharma, and our health is not their concern.
We are just smokers, able to be sacrificed in this game that is only about money.

I'm sure we seem jaded, and perhaps even the kind that believe in conspiracy theories...
But many of us here have been slapped upside the head with the reality of the situation over the course of years.

We are not guessing and we are not assuming.
We KNOW what the score is because we have been watching the scoreboard for years.

This is not to say that if 1000 of us bombarded the ALA with our thoughts on the matter, something might change.
And if anyone can succeed in rallying thousands of us to participate, I will be first in line to offer support.
But ignorance, apathy, and/or hopelessness impedes the action of most vapers.

I have tried so many times to inform the troops, and even rally them, that I've almost given up.
Now I save my energy, time, and bullets for things that REALLY matter, and might have a chance at having some effect.

But if you can find a way to make this work, you will most certainly become one of my heroes.
And on this forum I have many heroes.
    :)

All of this is in no way meant to discourage you.
In fact, it is meant to piss you off and strengthen your resolve.

When I find a cause that seems worth pursuing, I will throw all of my efforts behind it.
I think many here feel the same way.

In order to get to 1000 you got to start somewhere so go on there and tell them your success story. It would take far less time doing that than writing the post you just did.

Note. I saw a ANTZ engage me on the site. At least I think it's a ANTZ could be a level.

This is in no way shape or form meant to undermine any efforts made in the passed. I see real issues here I believe in order for your voice to be heard you have to go speak. And social media is now a 2-way street. What the worse that could happen with this campaign.

I am aware that I am new to this fight. But the only way your going to piss me off is if you give up the fight.
We can talk respectfully on how the fight should be taken on but I think you do agree that we need to put up a fight.

    I already did.
    :)

And if we could get 999 more people to do so, who knows?

I was encouraged that they did not delete our posts on their page.
So at least I can say that much.

Part of the cause is silencing your enemies when they are in the wrong and point it out to them. Now we should not go there and the them FU but tell that we quit smoking. If the engage in the conversation (unlikley) that will be outed as BigPharma shills. If they delete our comments well that shows evidence they really don't care about your Lungs. If they let them stay maybe someone who goes to their FB page might try vaping.

Ah, you have had your first introduction to Electricman.
I don't know if I would qualify him as an ANTZ so much as an insane but dedicated idiot.

There is a long history with this particular individual.

If I were to post in response, he would recognize my name and probably go off on some crazy tangent.
Either that or he would start posting a bunch of studies that twist results to try and show how bad vaping is.

I am still debating whether or not that would be to your benefit.
    :)

It is easy to say something in one sentence that makes vaping look bad.
It takes time, effort, and lots of research to disprove such ridiculous claims.

Would you like me to post in reply?

Do not debate if this is in my best interest but wither or not its in the interest of the Vaping community. Sounds like you have been more on the ground in this cause than I have.

It is your call on replying keep in mind we are taking this debate on the ALA FB page which is another one of the goals in a social media campaign. I made my reply.

It's hard to impress people with our quit smoking stories when they say we haven't "really" quit smoking unless we've quit all nicotine and tobacco products. They don't consider switching to vaping to be quitting, even though we are no longer exposed to smoke. In their minds, we are still addicts and thus, could go back to smoking at any moment. Sort of like how they say alcoholics can't even drink one drop or they'll relapse. They also believe that because it looks like smoking it's just as bad, because it goes against their agenda to denormalize smoking. Their theory is that kids will see us vaping and start smoking. Even if you vape nicotine-free liquid, the ALA doesn't want us purposely inhaling anything but air.

You'll have to change their whole way of thinking about tobacco harm reduction (which they currently reject) before they'll acknowledge that vaping can be considered "quitting smoking." The only stories they'll give kudos for would be people who used e-cigarettes to become 100% tobacco and nicotine-free and even then, it would be with the caveat that people should really stick to FDA-approved products because they "don't know" about the safety of e-cigarettes.

These organizations are made up of three types of people: those who are in it for the money, those who are zealots against anything tobacco/nicotine/addiction and those who genuinely just want to improve public health. But the first two are the "ruling class" and there is no changing minds with them. It'd be like trying to convince the National Association of Hotel Casino Owners and Gamblers Anonymous to endorse online poker - it's simply not in their financial best interest or goes against every grain of their being. (Yes, I just made up the NAHCO, but you get the point.) You may be able to convince the group who actually want what is best for public health, but they aren't the ones in power with these organizations and they also seem to be in the minority.

However, once we have more conclusive science in our corner and more non-smokers supporting THR, we can hopefully shame these organizations into changing their tune. It is more about educating the general public (both through science and first-hand exposure to THR working for smokers they know and love) so they look at these organizations taking a hard position against tobacco harm reduction and tell them they are wrong. As users, we are too easily brushed off with "Of course they'd say that, they're addicts." But as non-users and physicians see the positive effects of THR; as people don't drop dead from THR/e-cigarettes and as the smoking rates continue to stall using failed "quit or die" policies of the past, we will start seeing more and more support from non-smokers.

It is hard to impress them with our quit smoking stories if we don't let them know about it. I mean what kind of idiots think Vapor is Smoke.

In order for us to change there mind engaging them in the THR theory and have them advocate for the cause when the THR theory is hard to understand for the avg. Ecig user then for them to pass message on to these type of groups. Go ask 100 random people what THR is? Then go ask them what an Ecig is. What results do you think you will get. I am not against the THR theory but when you start talking about THR to a smoker it sounds like some kind of drug where as Ecig and Vapor is easier to understand.

The America Gaming Association does support Online Poker. They are what you would think of at the National Association of Hotel Casino Owners.

What is "conclusive" science? I believe we are there. ie Ecigs have been around for sometime nothing has gone wrong yet nor is there any reason to believe it will. The only science I truly understand is that I don't smoke any more because that is what I used to quit. Somehow "Science" was on the side of chantix. Or at least FDA science. Waiting on science will result in regulations that will kill the Ejuice market. Because someone will make the regulations so bad only a few could market the Ecig in limited flavors of course.

I dare them (ALA) to call me an Ecig addict. I am proud that I switch to vaping and I fell the need to tell them that. So should the rest of us that have switched. They can think that but if we keep being Proactive on things could change.

You have a lot of passion and energy, and we desperately NEED a lot more of that around here.

The very first thing you should do is join CASAA...
    Become a CASAA Member

The second thing you should do is attend their next member meeting.
There you can share your thoughts and ideas with many people who, like you, want to take action.

When you become a member you will receive emails letting you know when the meeting is and how to join the meeting.
But in general, the meetings are every other Sunday at 7:30pm EST.

Focusing your efforts on the ALA (or any other such organization) is a waste of time.
They are paid a lot of money to fight against electronic cigarettes, and in fact have already tried to get them banned.

    Done

    .
I was at the last meeting. I have had to phone conversations with a board member and another activist not one the board. Both phone conversation where more that an hour long.

I am aware of this. But it is not a waste of time IMO. It is really hard for me to articulate why at this point. I will try later.

When I get the time and energy I will relate the advocacy efforts with Online Poker community and the PPA to the Ecig and CASAA. There are a lot of similarities the more I dig in to every thing. I have a thread about in the new members forum.

Anyway I will be seeing my Congressman later tonight whom I have a good relationship with. And I am still not sure if I want to bring this issue up yet to him.
