So sorry to hear that!
I had a Persian once with similar problem, vet said it was a blood clot and it lost use of one back leg. He suggested putting her down.
That cat ended up staying with us about 3 or 4 more years. She finally succumbed to other health issues. I understand exactly what you must be feeling.

This one will run after you, claws out, and actually get your toes :( He hasn't figured out how to play nice and keep those damn claws in! If he can't get you with his paws (he has no depth perception what so ever) he'll try bite instead...

Ouchie.
My cat keeps her claws to herself.
