Really liking my AW 18350s so far. .8 ohm builds are about the sweet spot for me, nicely balanced for quality and quantity. Will likely be picking up some of the 18650s as soon as well, the quality is there for the little ones and everything I hear about the larger ones tells me they are similar in that regard

I am thinking of picking up some of these new aw's. Do you guys think they are worth it for a mod or should I go with a diifferent brand?
a mod... Can mean alot of things in this day and age.

What does it mean to you?

I have been quite happy with the two AW 18350's I bought. Got them from Fenix Flashlights, Solarforce, Cree LED, Lithium Batteries, Lithium Ion Batteries, Li-Ion Chargers, Maxpedition Bags, Spyderco Knives and more! which is one of the few authorized retailers for AW's. Be sure and get the 800 mah cells, they are the 12 A discharge and safe for a .8 ohm build. Haven't tried the 18650 cells as I have several Samsung 25r's for that purpose.

And just a friendly reminder to get an ohm reader and use some method to calculate the draw via Ohm's Law. Mechs are awesome, unless you have one explode. If you're new to building coils, maybe think about getting a regulated mod to start with, something with short circuit protection and other safety measures built in. Then you can focus in getting your builds right without so many worried :) Something like an IPV mini 2, which I have and love, or a Subbox from Kanger, which is cheaper. Built in ohm reader with thise as well, so two birds with one stone!

I have a regulated mod currently and I feel comfortable with my coil builds now. I either get my exact target resistance or I am .1 higher/lower. I have a multimeter and always check my batteries and coils before using them. But I plan on picking up an ohm meter as well so I have two check before using. Just like in carpentry "measure twice, cut once" I think it applies to vaping. Measure twice, don't blow up haha.

Awesome! Then disregard, you already got this. Enjoy your mechs!

Are the AW 18490 1200 mah cells truly 18A CDR? I saw the test results earlier in the thread but it maxed out at 15A. I'm not trying to build super low but I'm wanting to pick up an 18500 Poldiac before they go bye bye and want to make sure I can build down to .4 (which would be fine with a 18A cell).

Unlike some battery brands, AW has never over-rated their battery specs. If AW says its 18 amps CDR, then that's what it is. Just make sure its the newer AW and you purchase it from a reputable vendor such as RTD Vapor. Avoid purchasing counterfeit AW batteries. The "new" (2015) AW IMR's have a silver/black AW hologram sticker and a black stripe around the bottom end covering about 40% of its diameter.

AW 18650 2200mah 20A (new hybrid)

AW 18490 1200mah 18A (new hybrid)

AW 18350 800 mah 12A (new hybrid)

Coil amp draw from Ohm's Law calculations:

1.0 ohm = 4.2 amp draw
0.9 ohm = 4.6 amp draw
0.8 ohm = 5.2 amp draw
0.7 ohms = 6 amp draw
0.6 ohms = 7 amp draw
0.5 ohms = 8.4 amp draw
0.4 ohms = 10.5 amp draw
0.3 ohms = 14.0 amp draw
0.2 ohms = 21.0 amp draw
0.1 ohms = 42.0 amp draw
0.0 ohms = dead short = battery goes into thermal runaway

Jhhollier my tester only has 1, 2, 5, 10, 15, and 20a drain settings. It's why I went with 15a on the AW 18490. I have ran them to that about that limit (17.7a) on a mechanical set up with no issues. As Baditude said, AW does not put inflated claims on their batts. I've seen them out perform their ratings, but never under.
