Hopefully someone with better math skills than I can help. I am looking to get into DIY e-juice. When buying unflavored nicotine, what is the best base ration to get? Do you buy 100% VG or 100% PG or maybe a 50% PG/ 50% VG?
I ask because I want the broadest range of ratios. Please help
The most economical nicotine base is 100 mg. However, one must exercise caution when handling it. Using rubber gloves is a must when handling 60 mg and above, but I suggest wearing gloves with whatever base you decide. The PG/VG ratio is up to you. Are you going to use 100% PG, 100%VG, or a mix of both in the final ejuice mixture? I make my DIY at 70PG/30VG, but I purchase my base 50/50. Of course, that's what I do.
I also suggest you make small batches to start with, say 5 ml.
I handle the nicotine base (wearing gloves) with a 5 ml syringe and a 14 ga. blunt tip needle from Wizard Labs. I never add base by counting drops, NEVER!

If your final ejuice ratio is mostly PG, buy your nic base in PG. Same for VG. If you want to make a variety of juice ratios, then buy nic in 50/50 and also buy pure PG and pure VG. Then, you've got your bases covered.
Without buying 100mg, I've found that 60mg is 'bout the be$t bang fer da buck. PLUS, sixty is a multiple of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 12, 15, 20 and 30. Now that's ratio flexibility!
I purchase the PG nic base in that my recipes are 60-70PG/40-30VG.

I tend to buy 100 mg/ml PG base, but I like a 70% PG/30% VG liquid. That means I need a lot of extra PG in the mix as well.
Even with the pure PG base, I could mix my standard recipe (20 mg/ml) at 20% PG/80% VG with no problems. If I wanted to go higher VG than that, I'd need a VG base nicotine solution.
100 mg/ml is proportionately more dangerous than 60 (or, modestly but not very dangerous). Gloves are always a good idea when handling any nic base. Additional protection might be a good idea depending on how klutzy you are.
PG will tend to be more stable over longer time periods, so if you think you'll need to store your nic base for a while in the refrigerator or freezer, I'd buy PG.
That's why I stated "Without buying 100mg...". Some DIY folk have no desire to use/handle 100mg, self included. I was stating the mathematical advantage of ratios and $aving$.
