Password Change Required?

Browsing around the forum just now, went to look at a post and got a notice that I had to change my password.
Couldn't access anything on the site until I did so.

Just curious, is something up or is this going to be a regular event?

Happened to me too, OTD. Kind of glad that I was not the only one. The message did say that my P/W had expired.

My experience, and my question exactly. I've got a bank that does this periodically. I've got one and a half pages of my physical phone directly so filled with obsolete passwords it's hard to tell which is current.

My notice said my pasword expired....doh freaked me out also...

Happened once before about 4 months ago. Could be a lot of reasons - hacking, data base cull, db corruption, server swap/update. I'm actually pleasantly surprised the site is up as consistently as it is, considering the traffic.

i imagine a forum-wide password change had to be set up beforehand in the system so it doesn't make much sense that a heads-up couldn't be posted ...............

A good password policy would have you changing it every six to twelve months. If you have trouble remembering passwords use a service like LastPass or KeePass.

Although I too received the message to reset my password (current one had expired). I merely "changed" it to the same one it always was without issue.

I use Lastpass-used the free version till I got the paid version ($12/year) for use with mobile phone.Works great for me.
