The thing is, though, if you really want the "shiny copper", you should look into clear-coating it. Otherwise you're going to spend a lot of time polishing!
Got a link to a product or method you'd reccomend? Having them stay shiny once I get them there would be much better if its one and done.

Copper and brass patina over time. No big deal though, they're fairly easy metals to clean. Personally I don't mind the patina, though I eventually will clean it and figure out how to get it to turn different colors

Edit: re-patina'd it to make my Mutation X look like this:
