I think South Carolina must be the cheapest right now. I can go down to the Walgreen's at the end of my street and get a 3-pack of Marlboro for less than $10, and if you opt for the Marlboro 72's, they're $2.49 per pack (must not be selling well).

A little history:

My first pack of cigarettes, Kent Ultra-Lights, cost me $0.89 at a gas station in Sumter, SC in 1986. When I was in high school, '88 - '91, I bought cartons of Marlboro Menthol (because no one would bum them off of me) for $9. When I was in the Navy, '93 - '96, the Commissary sold cartons of Marlboro here in Charleston for about $8.

Even now, you can get a carton of Marlboro at Wal-Mart for about $38, cheaper at most gas stations ($32 - $35). That seems low, but six months ago, they were $22 a carton.

I used to live in the Buffalo, NY region, and there were times when including sales tax i paid around $8 a pack at the gas station :( They charge federal, state and county tax on them. Hard to say what it is now since the prices are so shifty, but i used to buy all my cigs at the indian reservation for about $30 a carton.

Now that i live in Rochester, the price is around $6-7 a pack, still more than i paid on the reservation which is now a two hour drive away  Honestly, moving that far away from my cheap source was the final push that got me seriously thinking about e-cigs

Camels are like $5.25-$5.75 here, $6.50 at Wal-Mart.

Of course, every single store has had the "2 pack specials" in stock for the past 5 years...they're like $8 I think? Haven't bought any in over a month now.

edit: The most I've ever paid is certainly over $12. Here's a tip - if you're going to a casino, make sure you have enough to last you!

6.85 to 8.25 here in Maryland. I was in Las Vegas at the Luxor and they were over 10 bucks so I went to the store down the street and they were 6 or 7 bucks if I remember correctly.

We also get the two pack specials here. I don't know what it's like where you live but here they just bust open the package and sell the two packs for regular price.

In Scotland they were well over 10 bucks.

You must be a youngin' :) I remember paying $35 a pack at one particular chain of gas stations in town that didn't bother asking for IDs. That was a LONG time ago.

I think you meant .35.

When I started I could get a pack of Marlboro Reds for .85 at Racetrack Gas Stations. And you could walk in smoking one while you bought another pack.

I remember my grandmother smoking at the grocery store, at Kenneys buying me shoes, god that was along time ago.

I remember (vaguely) ashtrays in the supermarkets and maybe even Wal-Mart when I was a little kid.

We sold brand name cigs for $1.00 a pack at the arcade/book shop my parents had in the late 1980s. I think cartons were $9.00 or so. This was when 100s still cost more than Kings.

Until about.. a year ago? or so? Marlboros were $35/carton here in Texas.. now they are $45 or $50 I think.

I remember packs at .35 and cartons @$2.99. But we'd wait until the Sunday paper came out, as there was always a $1 coupon.
