I always shied away from "Contemporary Christian" because I don't like the musical style. It's too soft rock/ modern country for me, so I tuned it out, regardless of how good the lyrics were. But the deacon in charge of music it our church has been introducing a lot of contemporary tunes. We don't do them in the contemporary style though, just voice and a piano or a guitar. I have come to love several of them and am even learning to play some of them myself. Now "Oh To See The Dawn" and "Before The Throne" are two of my favorite songs ever.
If you like harder stuff with a Christian message, listen to the album Dragontown, by Alice Cooper. It will literally scare the Hell out of you. It is very dark. It paints a graphic picture of Hell to show you that you do not want to go there. It is not for the faint of heart. This is my favorite, especially the last two lines:
11. It's Much Too Late
I never kicked a dog,
A child or my wife
I never looked at pornography
I swear it on my holy saint mother's life
But somehow she's down here with me
I never stole a thing
A toy or a kiss
My conscience is a clear as can be
And when I was a teen
All the sex that I missed
Was an abstinence blessing to me
The road to hell is littered
with nice guys with good intentions
But once you're there, you're there
It's much too late
I can cry and scream it's just not fair
To leave me here like you don't care
There must be some mistake up there in heaven
Now it's much too late
My time has passed away
All my plans and dreams have all ended
Now it's much too late
To try and plead my case
And I don't know the God I've offended
It's too late
