Question(s) about lung cancer

I have a friend who is 64 yrs. old, this is an OLD friend, my oldest friend, we met in 1967. I will call him Wade. Another mutual friend, I will call Joe has just emailed me that Wade may have lung cancer. Wade has no health insurance and lives in CA but apparently had a lung xray with uh, like "spots" or whatever. Joe didn't seem too knowledgable about it even though they have been friends since high school. Joe lives in SoCal and Wade lives in NoCal so they don't see each other but a few times a year. Personally I am in TX. Wade is a life long smoker from probably the age of 18 (like me). I am just sorta wondering if a gift of "vaping equip" might be helpful? I thought someone here might know?
