Rebuild kit install

So I received my Grand on Thursday and already have to replace the contact.....super genius here watched an older care and maintenance video and decided to take an Emory board to the gold contact removing the plating...the light show from the arcing while beautiful is no good. Most of the rebuild tutorials I have been able to find seem to be geared towards updating to the new contacts ...are there any special tricks I may be missing or need to know swapping out the new style ?
