Well THAT'S an interesting read! Especially considering which office made the inquiries.

Letter of support off to Senator McCain. Can FDA be made to comply with the 5/31 date?

Don't know about the date issue but they sure do have the authority to ask for what they have requested. This one could be interesting.

Yepper, a Homeland Security inquiry ought to really stir da pot... NOT!

Yepper, da authority to limit your/our choices is rampant and day-um near unlimited! No phrickin' comfort nor excitement here...

The senate also develops an FDA appropriations bill. And the house and senate bills must be reconciled. It seems to me that raising the specter of FDA overreach prior to finalizing appropriations is far better than raising it following finalization. And, any opportunity to write a pointed letter to a subcommittee member is an opportunity worth taking. IMHO, of course.

Not really. Remember, the political appointees heading the FDA (and thus the bad guys for us) are as lame ducks as the president who appointed them.

They can stall and shilly-shally until January 2017, at which point they're history. (It's likely that even Hillary or Bernie would want to appoint their own henchmen, and almost for sure Trump would.)

Look at how successful other executive-branch organizations (State and the IRS are notorious, but there have been lots of others) have been stalling off congressional committees for years and years.

Alright I am sick of the lifetime politicians (Dick Durbin) who use the children as a ploy to over regulate an industry whose products help ADULTS quit inhaling burnt tobacco leaves. This ignoramous ran the state of Illinois into the ground and now he and the other self righteous politicians want to put us under the ground. Candy? You fool I'd like you to take a sip. OK Dick, we'll all return to inhaling burnt, chemically laced, tobacco leaves. Kill the adults but save the kids that don't even use these.

The chair of the committee is the only committee chair in the Senate with the power to issue subpoenas without a committee vote, though in practice, such unilateral subpoenas have rarely been issued in recent years.
