Sorry the title should read 12mg solution, not 12mg nicotine. I need an expert's opinion because I am dealing with nicotine and mistakes are dangerous. Someone in another thread is insisting 1 ml of 12mg liquid contains 12mg of nicotine. I say the correct figure is 0.012 mg. Who is right? Thanks in advance, and please, if you are not an expert, or you are unsure, let the veterans speak. Thanks again.

Simple answer. 12 mg.

I was thinking that, but I didn't want to be the first to post it, in case I was wrong.

I know when I mix 10ml of 24mg and 10ml of 12mg, I get 18mg overall.

P.S. The simple answer isn't 12mg, its Chuck Norris. Chuck is *always* right, even when he's wrong, which never happens, because Chuck is always right!

Here is what I do if I want to make 10ml of 12mg solution
8.8 ml of base
1.2 ml of 100mg nicotine solution (containing 0.12mg of nicotine.)

Is this correct, you guys?

Sort of, except 1.2 ml of 100 mg/ml nicotine contains 120 mg of nicotine.

120 mg divided by 10 ml total volume = 12 mg per ml.

I always thought 100mg Nic solution was defined as containing 100mg of PURE nicotine in 1000 ml of solution, i.e 10%..... Not so?

And here's a link that can hopefully clear up the misunderstanding of the units and measurements that you are having. Weight/volume percentage are confusing because the units used are not uh... intuitive. Weight/Volume Percent

So if you take the formula from that page... You'd convert 100 mg/ml to grams/ml and multiply by 100.

.1 g/ml x 100 = 10%

100 mg nic solution is actually 100 mg/ml.

If you have 100 mg/ml, then in 1 ml there are 100 mg. The math all becomes much more easy to grasp when you understand that when people use the shorthand of saying x mg juice, they really mean x mg/ml.

This. The rating of nicotine concentration is in units of mass per unit of volume. The percentage depends upon the density of the material. The standard density of water (specific gravity 1.0) is 1 gram (1,000 mg) per milliliter and that's what's used for our purposes. 100 mg/ml is 10% of the maximum solution.
