Although I personally would and have purchased Sony cells, my thoughts compliment what Thrasher said about the controversial availability of genuine Sony cells.

We can easily tell that Sony is still supplying these VTC cells to OEM manufacturers of power tools, so SOMEBODY is still making them.

It looks like Sony was planning back in 2012 to move their battery manufacture abroad by March 2014.

Right around the same time (2014) XTAR started selling Sony wrapped VTC4s and then XTAR wrapped 18650 2100 mAh 30 amp batteries. Not sure if they are connected, but the timing is interesting to say the least.
