Higher resistance = less power output in Watts = regular cartos = cooler vape, less vapor, less hit, liquid lasts longer, battery lasts longer.

Lower resistance = more power output in Watts = 'Wow' or LR cartos = hotter vape, more vapor, more hit, liquid is used up quicker, battery dies quicker.

Some people prefer more power and a bigger hit, others like it cool. Some mix it up according to the flavor used. tobacco and chocolate 'like' more power, fruits like it cool - but tastes vary.

Unsurprisingly, our chief honcho has provided an excellent - and wonderfully concise - answer. I'll just add:

  • LR increases both the watts power (for that stronger, hotter vape) and the amps current. It is that which can shorten battery life.

  • Those higher amps also place a greater strain on the cartomizer and can shorten its life (as well as the battery's).

  • LR cartomizers vary in how low their resistance is, typically between 1.5 and 2.0 ohms for 510 and eGo cartomizers.
  • The other factor impacting all this is the battery voltage. For example, with the same cartomizer, a 3.2V eGo will generate somewhat less watts and amps than a 3.7V Riva or mod ... and much less than a 5V or 6V mod. I prefer some LR cartos on 3.2V and other LR cartos on 3.7V.
  • Never use LR attys on higher than 3.7V. [An exception is the dual coil cartomizer, which in fact has a higher effective resistance than the 1.5 ohms advertised. Many vapers do use these on voltages up to 5V.]
