Looks like Stanton Glantz is contradicting himself again…..

This is from the letter to the WHO he co-signed in response to the previously submitted one (which reflects one of his common assertions regarding e-cigarettes):

“Most ENDS users are "dual users" who continue to smoke cigarettes. Reviews of evidence about reducing smoking (instead of quitting) show that dual users are unlikely to see any health benefit in terms of cardiovascular disease.”

    tobacco.
    ucsf.edu/129-public-health-and-medical-authorities-31-countries-write-who-dg-chan-urging-evidence-based-appro

And yet this is from his recent blog post (note: this wasn't written by him but by his colleagues in UCSF, which he obviously supported by adding it to his blog):

“An extensive literature has shown that in response to a 1percent increase in cigarette prices, overall cigarette consumption among adults would fall by somewhere between 0.3 and 0.7 percent, with about half of the reduction being attributed to the reduced number of current smokers and half attributed to the reduced number of cigarettes consumed per smoker (Chaloupka and Warner, 2000; Gallet and List, 2003; CBO, 2012). Therefore, these price increases will reduce consumption of the regulated tobacco products, which will, in turn, have positive health effects for the public and even lead some consumers to stop using the regulated products.”

    tobacco.

Someone needs to call him out on this…

You don't get it... Reducing the number of smokes one uses only has positive health benefits if it comes about thru TCI-approved methods. Any other way of doing it is incorrect, does not put $$ in their pockets, therefore cannot serve public health.

Who is this Glantz idiot, how did he get whatever his job is, and how do we get RID of idiots like him? Insist on an IQ test in the pre-employment physical?

I think if we gave IQ tests to everyone in gov't and dismissed all those who didn't score at least 100, the nat'l debt would decrease by half.

Glantz is part of the "Center for Tobacco something something" at the Unversity of California San Francisco. I have never been able to find their sources of funding, but I bet it's funded by grants from the Government and Big Pharma. ..meaning we are paying his salary. I wish someone would comment on these sources of funding...you know, follow the money.

If ecigs were to end tobacco use...well Glantz would be out of a job...that is the reason he is fighting us. It always comes down to power and greed. Someday, perhaps, he will be revealed for the quack he is.

Do not underestimate ANTZ. They may sound like idiots to us, but they're actually shrewd (albeit sociopathic) .......s. They created the system and know how to work it to further their agenda. The kind of social engineering they've managed to perpetrate is downright impressive in its sheer success and scope, and is a testament to their cold, calculated nature, as well as IQ.

This, they formulated a plan ~ 40 years ago and have successfully implemented it. Then Hon Lic invented something that turned their world upside down and they are feverishly scrambling to maintain their source of unearned income.

It appears they are being rather successful if the deeming regulations are implemented as written.

You have to remember they do not give a flying flip about our health, their only concern is maintaining their income stream. This includes BP, BG, BT and their minions the ANTZ.

Proof? Their 30 years of lying about OTP, see the Swedish miracle, snus.

Agreed. It seems like a couple of years ago we were all trumpeting 2 advantages of e-cigs...namely, use anywhere and reduced cost. Well theANTZ have pretty much squashed the use anywhere advantage thru their clever media campaigns and are now laying the ground work for increased taxes and hence higher costs. In short, they are far from dumb and well funded.

    Bingo. ;)

    Yup.
Compare the witch hunters of the Middle Ages. Evil, cold, calculating, greedy for money and power - and feeding a lot of fearmongering manure to the rabble, in order to make the rabble their willing tools. You do not really think that the witch hunters themselves believed in "witches", eh?

source: Malleus Maleficarum - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Now take the above text and replace "witchcraft" with "dangers of second-hand smoke".
    Got it? ;)

For the Malleus Maleficarum ("Witch Hammer") of our times, read this:
    Rampant Antismoking Signifies Grave Danger

The tobacco control movement has basically become a religion at this point. It relies on magical thinking (e.g. "if it looks like smoking, then it is smoking") and intractable dogmas (e.g. "everyone who uses nicotine is an unreformed smoker, therefore a drug addict, therefore incapable of objectivity"). Saving people's lives, and improving public health, is not something they care about. They are, for all intents and purposes, a pack of Pavlovian dogs who dutifully howl at the moon when so instructed by their handlers.

The fascists have always been among us. It's only now that they've been given a voice and the means to make it heard (all over again).

I think it's probably the number 1 worst and most evil character defect in the human race, this need to control others based on one's own values, with no regard for the opinions of those who are to be controlled, because somehow they're "defective" or "subhuman," who knows how they justify it to themselves; it's just evil, a perversion of the human spirit, an insult to the entire human race that there are people like this, and that the rest of us suffer them to inflict their evil on all and sundry who disagree with them.

    Andria,

You got it all wrong... an IQ under 80 is a prereq to be employed by *any* government in the world. Some even lower. I think the guys at the Mexican FEDERAL COMISSION FOR THE PREVENTION OF HEALTH RISKS (Spanish acronym: COFEPRIS) are among those. :(

They banned ecigs on the grounds that they haven't studied them yet... Senate impugned the decision and lost, wanna gue$$ who$e intere$t$ are being defended?

Well, that's right in line with my assertion that gov't workers are those too stupid to get any other kind of job. And these are the people we elect to represent us??? I sure as heck don't feel represented.

    I fully agree.
In Tobacco Control, the problem is not the tobacco. It is the control.

Vapingpoint Liz - an over 70-year-old lady vaper from the UK - puts it very well indeed : You lot MAKE ME SICK

(the whole blogpost is worth reading)

As to the bolded part of your statement: I also fully agree. Michael J. McFadden describes it very clearly: http://www.tobakkonacht.com/preface.html

    So does Edmund Burke:
"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing."

I just read that, and I echo the author's sentiments completely. And just so it's out there... I *never* use the word "fascist" lightly or flippantly; my first husband was the child of Polish Jews who by some miracle survived the camps they were sent to; they were 1st cousins, but apparently in Jewish culture the marriage of 1st cousins is not a terrible thing, and considering what they had been through, each in their separate camps, it's understandable that in the aftermath they would cleave to one another -- they, and one other cousin, were the only survivors of their entire extended family; the other cousin ended up resettled in Australia, so it's like another Diaspora. My first husband made certain that I saw the documentary film Shoah, and that is just harrowing, about 9 hrs of pure horror. So, I never use the term "fascist" lightly, I know exactly what fascists are capable of -- if good people do nothing.

Maybe *we* are those good people. Most of us have given up cigarettes completely -- with a few dual-user exceptions; but we know, there are still millions of smokers out there, being persecuted for an addiction that many of them are completely helpless to do anything about. The means has arrived for them to finally be liberated -- if the ANTZ fascists don't get their way and manage to convince the world that vaping is the same as smoking. We are so determined that we will not be persecuted, since vaping is NOT smoking, but what about those who haven't yet heard the "good news"? If the ANTZ get their childish way, those smokers never will hear that good news, never have the opportunity to save their own lives -- and that is JUST EVIL.

Andria, be grateful you don't live in Mexico. We have two kinds of "representatives" and "senators" and the two represent only their interests and their parties'. One kind are elected in the ballots and is called "proportional majority", the other are designated by their respective parties (they're calle "plurinominals" —"pluris" in pop talk) and you see the same faces decades after decades, jumping from one chamber to the other.

They were instituted when the PRI ruled lord of the country —and it was a presidential ruled one– as a sort of leveling force for minorities. No one but them would be able to remove them now, since this depends on them voting against themselves (we're the most perverted form of democracy now, where no one commands). Wanna guess what kind of perks they vote for themselves as a compensation for their patriotic services? A pasha would be envious!

Because of the connection with the holocaust, it is either avoided or invoked. But fascism is one form of government, that doesn't necessarily involved the lengths to where some went. The concept as a gov't fills a category that because of it's history is overlooked, imo.

    As economic systems:

    Socialism - gov't owns all
    Fascism - gov't controls all
Free Market - leaves the economy alone

In a political system, under a free market, a Republic acknowledges individual rights and protects them and enforces justice on violations, and in economic matters, that means against theft and fraud.

Fascism fills the hole left from looking at economies as only either socialist or capitalist. A 'mixed economy' is fascist by degree - it allows some 'favored' industries' to trade freely, but controls other industries. The tendency is to (usually gradually so as not to scare the citizenry) increase control to where you have a total fascist economy. OR sometimes the solution is to just go to socialism - which is more honest since 'control=ownership'.

When I use the word, I only mean it in this manner - as an economic system.
