Could one use a battery higher than a 14500 for a 3.7 box mod?--say a 16340 or even an 18650. Please excuse my ignorance on the batts---any recommendations?
I would check out this thread, and contact Steve, or post in his thread. He just might build you a 3.7v,18650 box. His builds are very reasonable and professional. I myself have 3 of his boxes, and they are great.
The physical size of the battery necessary is determined by the size of the box and the width and distance apart the contacts are. If you already have the mod, then it takes the size it takes. If you are going to get a mod, then you can either find one ready made for the size of battery you wish to use or follow oplholik's advice and have one made (or even make your own).
As to what battery is "stronger" - that's a whole different thing. Larger dimensions doesn't necessarily mean more potent. It often means higher mah rating (it could go longer between charges). What are you hoping for/trying to accomplish?
I'll agree with what was said above. It's gonna depend on what your mod will hold. The 18650 is awesome & lasts way longer than a 14500, but would be worthless if your mod will only fit the 14500s.
Mah of your batteries definitely make a difference.
