Oooo! buy Mom a new set of aluminum pots and pans! Yeah... For Mom... And a whole set of wooden spoons. (I guarantee you the aluminum ones will make more noise than stainless steel.)

Grandparenting is the best thing in the world. Besides the drum set (the earlier the better....I agree with Rickajho....start with aluminum pots and pans at least until he can sit on a drummers stool.) Also he will definitely need fingerpaints in all the primary and secondary colors, and little ones need lots of toys with LOTS of little bitty pieces.....hard plastic, sharp angles, carpet-colored....so they can practice manual dexterity.
