I've been wondering, why use Ni200 as a wrap instead of N80? The ohms are significantly lower, but the wire is softer...
And doesn't ni200 give off harmful vapors when brought to a certain temperature? I thought that was why people say not to dry burn ni200.

Hey Tom, ive been experimenting with some wire that I had off hand, I found that I really like how shiny the pure nickel is, and ive been finding use for it other than the garbage for outer wraps and only putting the cores in for the leads so it will ohm out safer. I have a great feel for aliens, I usually go full blast on the drill speed now, so using a softer metal is easier on my thumb. I have a slightly purist approach, I don't want to use swivels or a Clapton guide (i.e. old Kanger coils etc.) id much rather use n80 for everything, but I must say the nickel is giving very bright flavor and these coils are trapping a lot of juice so cloud production is really good.

Ok. First try at a Helix Staple, I realize now that I didn't space the wrap right to get the correct helix (will keep a better eye on it next time) but it's still a smooth and hard hitter.

5x.4mmx.1mm KA-1 ribbon, framed by twisted 28g KA-1, helixed with 3 strands of 36g KA-1. 3.0mm ID, 5/4 wraps, comes out to .13 ohms in my new Shuriken RDA (like it a lot so far), on my Padauk Wüd wrapped Sigelei 150w.

As long as it works for ya, that's great man. I've never used a Clapton guide thing ever, just swivels to keep everything nice n straight.
Check this build out, honestly it was a left over end of a 26/36g alien & I was practicing macro focusing techniques so ignore the mistakes lol. The shot was more important than the build in this case:

No edits, only crops & compression to make it fit the 1mb restriction for the forum.

The build was more important in this case though, my eyes almost started to bleed making this thing. Must admit she vapes like a beast and ohm'd out to .07

Glad I could inspire ya! I need to inspire myself truth be told, I mean one can only build so many framed staple aliens and 3 core aliens and the like of basic ish coils. My creativity needs to start flowing again & that double half stagger fuse was definitely one of the most tedious builds I've made. Now I need to make some more tedious creative builds... I can see my building getting away from all the norms and trends quickly. Any suggestions?

Edit: Boredom macro -

Started working on the Celtic braiding technic tonight. I used 3 loops of 36g N80 which ended up being too flimsy to hold shape in the coil as I tempered it so no color shots. 2.4mm ID came out to 1.06 ohms. Will redo with 28g tomorrow I think. This type of braid seems to lay flatter and wider than vertebraids and braidiators so it might vape even better.

Well Howdee Doo !!
My favorite coil builders on the net... I know its been a nearly a week since my last post, but unfortunately my health hasn't been at its greatest as of late. No worries, I expect to have issues periodically & I'm pretty sure surviving an Aortic Di-sectional Aneurysm isn't 1 of those things u just walk away from totally unscathed...:( Anyhoo, I'm back on my building grind & I have the rest of my week plotted out, so let's hope it doesn't rain so I can post some pics of my hard work at its best..I hope..:(
At any rate, these last 2 wks have been ruff...lol... 1st I fell & broke my Cherry Bomb V2. A wk later I just ran out to pick up my meds from the pharmacy, my daughter calls to say stop at the store... Well, of course I dropped it with a VCMT clone on top...lol... The 510 connection on the atty broke clean off & was lodged in the 510 connection of my Reuleaux... Great News is, since the clone broke, it led me towards buying an Authentic 30mm VCMT & it only cost me $30+S/H:p !! 3 days later the Reuleaux completely gave out, after 3days of acting up. From the charge signal showing when it wasn't charging, fully charged batteries showing up empty on the device & then finally it started flashing "No Atomizer" no matter what atty I put on it & then all of a sudden, nothing... The screen was completely dead, be it plugged up, fresh batteries, no matter what atty was on top...a blank screen. So I ordered another, no I did not get the new 200S, but I got the same old regular Reuleaux rx200. I will be buying a 200w backup soon, but for the moment I just wanted to replace my "Go To". Alright, I've taken up enough of your time. as you were & do what it do... Happy vapes all around & hopefully, I'll be posting 1 of my masterpieces later on 2day...;)

28g N80 3 line celtic/loop braid. 2.4mm ID, 0.22 ohms.

I finally found an iOS app that does focus stacking, but is limited to stacking 3 photos. It works ok I guess, but a few images didn't align too well. Camera may have wiggled though. I'll keep playing with it. The "penny shot" is the only one that wasn't focus stacked.

Holy poop, tom, that's brutal, how long did it take you to get those bigger staples to line up so well? and the quality of those pictures is amazing let alone with no edit and only being 1mb
How long did it take me to line them up? Forever. I did the half staggers separately then I didn't trust the drill all too much so I ended up just putting them in the chuck and spinning it at the slowest possible speed it could go to get the overall fuse. And nocrop on my iPhone works pretty well for image compression, usually gets pics down to 1mb or under.

Haven't been up to building the last 4-5 days as the whole family got Norovirus. Not fun. Started to feel human again today and built another diy light box. About 1 foot cubed this time and used tracing paper for the transparent sides instead of frosted plastic like I did on the last one. To test it out I reinstalled the fused reef I did a few weeks ago and ran the iOS focus stacking app I got too. Still learning the limits of the app with my clip on macro lens. Probably can do better moving forward.

So I made some progress with the focus stacking today. All of these photos are 9 images stacked except one which is 3 images (the cross over where both lines are colored). The 9 stacks are a bit grainy though so I will dial it back to 6 stacked next build.

Fused clapton (40g N80 over 2x 26g ss316l) paralleled with twisted 26g ss316l. 2.4mm ID, 0.19 ohms.

That design is a great way to keep the resistance up on a wire-heavy build. I would have also thought that would be the hottest part of the coil as it's in the center mass, and that a wick bed wouldn't be sufficient to feed it. Also what RDA is that?
It's the Subzero 24. I've been using it on my noisy cricket and it looks kinda ridiculous. The build ohm'd out around .4-.55~ I forget, but it's working great in series.

Long time no see everyone. Just dropping in to say the builds are looking amazing as always. Sadly, my build days are behind me for the time being. It's been a rough month between selling the house, starting the divorce process, and upending my life. I've been lurking, and the photo's are cheering me up. A few more months, I should be in a situation more conducive to building/hobby again, but for the time being I'm SOL and hoping my fused coils last for a while. Great building guys, keep the pictures coming.
