I recently read an article stating that e cig users look ridiculous using/vaping their various gadgets. Seriously? that's the best you got for criticism on a cancer free alternative for smoking? A lot of people don't like to accept change, and new and better ways of doing things. It's always been that way. Traditional smoking only looks better or more normal to the average person because that is what everyone is used to seeing. Never imagining it being any other way but what it is. As time passes, people will be used to seeing someone vaping, just like they are used to the look of smoking. Then, we won't have to read these stupid comments anymore.

This is another reason why it is important to vape openly in public, but respectfully. The more that the public in general experiences people vaping non cig-a-like models and realizes they are not bothered by it, the more acceptance it will generate. Also being well prepared to educate the uninformed.

I agree with you Davis0710, they do tend to pick the young ones to show the world. They haven't had one positive thing to say about vaping so I know it's all negative hype to scare the masses and keep smokers smoking. Most smokers are smarter than that and do their research and eventually find themselves here thankfully. Too many media zombies.

You can't blame them though, after all the vaping press seem to be portraying it as an alt-lifestyle type affair, so popular media is going to pick up on that.
I hadn't noticed it before, not being young enough to be around teenagers, but reading the VPR magazine earlier today online it's all tattoos, piercings and angry looking young people in it showing off the products.
As a middle aged (though still a tattoo'd biker LOL) married father of one I don't see it like that at all, just a hobby and I enjoy the effects of nicotine, I am also way beyond caring what people think I look like to the outside world.
What I really cannot get over is the attitude the majority of smokers have to vaping that I meet while outside the office/hotel lobby, like I am the one doing something odd. Really, so you are stood their killing yourself voluntarily and it's my thing that causes heads to turn LOL.

Our local news news had a story on e cigarettes today. I told my wife they had to pic the biggest idiots to be on the news special. Young hipsters blowing smoke rings and french inhaling on camera. I think that does make us look stupid. Not everyone vapes like a teenager. Try showing the people that actually quit smoking because of e cigs who don't try to flaunt it as a sport. Just my :2c:

Our local news always picks the "ridiculous" looking people for news stories... no matter the subject. lol

This is the open carry mantra too. The idea is to normalize. People often have irrational fears based on lack of exposure, and lack of knowledge. People are afraid of things they don't understand.

I had an industry rep ask me wth I was doing the other day. Or more basically - what the heck was that? (Neme w/ Kayfun 3.1) I said it's a mechanical e-cig. No circuitry. Basically a battery tube and a atomizer head you can rebuild. Being a bit of a techy dude. He just said, oooooh. That makes sense. I said yeah, I quit smoking. He said, that's awesome!

And that was that.

I had another smoker give me a hard time with the - you know you want one routine about 4 days ago. I laughed and said, nope. I don't. Come on man, you know that isn't the same. I said - you're right. It's better. No way, you're kidding yourself. You want a cigarette. Nope. I don't! Same brand I used to smoke and all. Guy was a ball buster but I genuinely didn't want to smoke. I said, THIS, beats that. Some day you'll learn. But thanks anyway.

So hopefully he thinks about it when he's ready to breathe again.

I vape in public. But make a genuine attempt to not be obnoxious.

I wonder when e-cigs will start cropping up in tv and film? It's sure to happen sooner or later IMO

It's already happening. Someone told me Kevin Spacey on House of Cards, the new Netflix series was using an e cig in an episode just recently. I don't have Netflix so I didn't see it.

Reading this thread gave me a giggle. I was already wondering how this works in public....I've been seeing stories pop up of them being banned in public or restricting them the same as tobacco cigs. Funny thing- I'm from a rural, small town. Have never seen someone vape here. I may be a trailblazer! I did however witness someone vaping at a casino once, but until this very minute, I didn't know what I was witnessing. Duh lol.

I guess I’m getting to be an old fuddy-duddy because I think a lot of things look ridiculous, including seeing myself vaping. I’ve never seen a vaper in the wild but when I do, I’m pretty sure I’ll think they look ridiculous also. A micro second later I’ll realize all they have gone through, including self education to quit cigarettes and improving the quality of their lives and their family’s lives. They’ll have beaten (billion dollar corporations) BT and BP at their own game and defeated Uncle Sam’s tax the poor. How freaking cool is that?! Guess Uncle Sam will have to concentrate on taxing the upper class. We’re all in this together so we might as well all look stupid together—or, more precisely, like winners.

I get weird looks all the time.. In my college I haven't seen anyone vaping, and when I go out between classes to vape (near the smokers actually) I get some dubious looks. I don't really care. I just don't enjoy people making it into this "trendy" thing with the smoke clouds and everything, it just gives us a bad image.
