TUTORIAL: heat coloring your mods

Has anyone experienced a problem with your mod heating up in a certain area after you torch it?

I tried this on my chi you clone and it looks great, it's just whenever I fire it there is a specific spot that gets really hot to where I can't touch it. It kind of sucks as I can't hold my mod the way I like anymore because of it.

I mainly torch my rda's, as opposed to the mod. But I did torch my Chi-You, looks great.

I've never personally had a spot get too hot though

That's pretty cool.

They make this stuff for welding, it's called thermal paste and/or cold paste. It a paste that you apply to the metal and it keeps the metal surrounding the weld from changing colors. There are infinite possibilities you could do with designs or keeping the logo it's origional color, etc...

Edited to add... it's pretty effective on stainless when the weld pool reaches temps of +/- 5000 deg, so I would have to believe it would work great at much lower temps when a propane tourch is used.

And another thought... You could get even deeper, more dramatic colors using MAP gas instead of propane. It burns a lot hotter. You can get it the same place that you get your propane tanks. It comes in a yellow bottle.

just torched my aga rda, gunna give it a second go i find that two times brings out the colors better.
this is how its looking right now, ill post another picture after round 2 on the rda
