I'm encountering an interesting problem. How do I know what the best mosfets, best buttons, best "510 deck," best gauge internal wire, etc. I'm ordering box mods, but I have no logical reason for choosing one component over another....since I do not have a set of data to statistically tell me what parts are better.

I've never seen a list for what the minimums should be and when I'm asked, I have no logical response other than what looks good.

Form factor dictates some of these requirements, but most of them are dictated by the builders of the devices, and in many cases there are no options.

OK, so here is your chance! Tell us what the very best grade of components are so when those of us are buying or building a box mod we can order the right parts!

I am in the process of building my first dual 18650 parallel box mod and after A LOT of research I will give you a list of what I believe are the best components for building a box mod. (at least in the configuration I use, which is dual 18650 parallel unregulated mosfet box)

Box - Hammond Box (1590G fits dual 18650's)
    Battery Sled/Base - Keystone 1048
    MOSFET - IRLB3034
Resistor - 15k ohm resistor (for MOSFET. You only need 1 but they are only sold in packs)
Master Switch - any small two position switch
Fire Switch - any momentary switch (you can use any momentary switch because the MOSFET will take all the amperage and your fire switch will not suffer from heavy current. I use 16mm to 20mm momentary switches)
    510 Connector - Fat Daddy 510 or Varitube 510 (I prefer the 22mm option)
Wire - 16AWG copper wire (people use all types of wire with different gauges but I find that 16AWG works best)
Door Magnets - any Neodymium/Rare Earth magnets for Hammond Boxes

I've been making unregulated series boxes for people and here's my take:
Boxes - AlpineTech 1590G or with VM cutout, or Modcrate for a CNC, no lean enclosure
Battery sled - I'd got with the Keystone 1049 (less to cut off) or 1047 (has solder tabs). There's also this one designed specifically for box mods
MOSFET - IRLB3034PBF is generally used, but the IRLB3813PBF is also good - Do NOT buy these on eBay or Amazon, there are clones all over
Resistor - Grab it at the same time as MOSFET from DigiKey or Mouser - anything 1/4W, 1K-1M - I use these
Fire Switch - AlpineTech's Mitec style have worked well for me, as well as Fat Daddy's 12mm Tactiles (aka Soft Tacos). For really tight builds, C&K's KSJ0M211 80SH LFT
510 - Fat Daddy's V3 Low Profile 510 have been my favorite, by far
Power Wire - Anything copper, not CCA, in 16-12AWG, preferably silicone jacketed; Fat Daddy also has this
Signal Wire - For switch to MOSFET, (and VM) anything 26-18AWG (I use 26 or 24AWG)

Way to keep this thread going! I'm definitely thinking I should just throw down with the suggestions and make my next box mod rather than buy one.

I'm definitely looking for the best parts since I would save so much in making it myself. I'm sure anyone with a box mod in need of a part could use the very same tips!

I will definitely check out the boxes you recommended. I was looking for enclosures that did not have the hammond lean but couldn't find any good suggestions.
