Republican New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has proposed (in his budget) taxing e-cigs at rate equal to NJ's $2.70/pack cigarette tax to punish and seize money from vapers, and to destroy Brick and Mortar sales of e-cigs in NJ.
Gov. Christie Plans New Tax Rate for E-Cigarettes
We need to mobilize lots of NJ vendors and vapers to oppose this ASAP.

Looks like Chris Christie won't be the Republican presidential candidate in 2016

Chris Christie plans new tax rate for e-cigarettes with 2015 budget

Christie plans to tax e-cigarettes and e-liquid at the same $2.70 per pack rate that cigarettes have, with legislators apparently worrying that taxing e-cigarettes less than traditional tobacco would be “sending a message out there that they’re somehow safer,” said Assemblyman Dan Benson. By some estimations, the tax could bring an average 30ml bottle of e-liquid to a total of about $100 because it would be taxed the same as a carton of cigarettes—currently, flavored e-liquid costs around $20 to $30 for that same amount.

A hike in price like that likely will all but destroy brick and mortar vape shops, along with inadvertently driving some e-cigarette users back to using traditional cigarettes. Currently, e-cigarettes in New Jersey are taxed at a rate of7 percent under the state’s wholesale tobacco tax, and this new tax stands to generate upwards of $35 million in additional revenue a year.

Public hearings on the proposed tax begin March 12, and the web-based e-cigarette community has already begun rallying for defense. Good thing, too—Jersey is just across an increasingly blurred state line, so this one likely will bleed over into Pennsylvania eventually.

Well this might be the first time an ECF thread has been cited in a news story.

That would be far from the political agenda of never telling the truth. It sounds like they are considering a $2.70 per ml tax.

Yes, that's just it isn't it... you know this is how they'll determine tax due. Damn NJOY and others have been promoting this farce for years, so its certainly well documented to the misinformed.

My job is moving me to New Jersey in a few months. I thought I would be escaping this kind of behavior upon leaving the Socialist Republic of California, but I guess not.... I get all the BS and worse weather to boot.

LOL... yeah, it's not an easy decision. I travel to northern Jersey fairly frequently (my company is HQ out of there). I was there just before the Super Bowl and it didn't get above 12F the entire week.... my thin SoCal blood wasn't used to that.

NJ legislators need to be told that taxing e-cigs (especially at that outrageous rate) will destroy brick and mortar e-cig retailers in NJ by giving most of their business to Internet retailers and B&M retailers located near borders of adjacent states.
There is a company in New Jersey-ESmoke-that has been around for a long time. Would they be active in fighting this tax?

We here in Pennsylvania would like to point out that New Jersey is a very thin state and no part is that far from the border. Just saying.

I appreciate your news, Bill, but when you pull this you shoot yourself in the foot. Repeatedly. I get that you have an obvious political ax to grind, but please take it to the Outside where it belongs.
Bill Godshall does NOT have a political ax to grind. He knows all the people in the anti-cigarette and anti-ecig movement. He has been helping us fight bans since 2008. His knowledge and help is invaluable. He simply states things as they are not as anyone might wish them to be. It might be helpful if you would sign Berylanas" petition.

Haven't we been admonished to stay on topic by the OP himself?

And thanks, but I'll make up my own mind based on what Bill actually says, not what you'd like him to have said instead.

Email, phone, or walk in to as many vape stores as you can and make sure they know times and dates of hearings. They in turn can notify their customers too.
