Update: Server upgrade 27 Oct 2012

While we had the techs available we took the opportunity to upgrade the forum search function.

A lot of the functions that are tied to search will be unavailable until all of the search indices are fully regenerated. In a forum this large this will take some time.

Most of the today's posts searches are working now, but searches that require deeper queries will be unavailable for a while longer. This includes subscriptions and "My Posts"

Harry (our vB tech) is still working on the search function. Part of upgrade process requires him to run some pretty heavy duty queries on the database and will lead to intermittent outages because of high server load. You may also experience some weird error messages as he tweaks the system and makes any required changes to the page templates.

Unfortunately there isn't a lot we can do about it except be patient and wait through the tough spots. Harry is a wizard and is working as fast as he can.

It looks like most of the work has been completed and search is working fine. We'll continue to monitor the situation as part of the post upgrade checks.
