First wood on the table for a VRmod is Velvet Mesquite Burl that I have 3 burl caps of from Arizona. Another wood that I am thinking about using is more local to V having come from sawyer friends in Tasmania. It's Lophozonia cunninghamii, and goes by many common names. Among them Pinkwood Burl, Tasmanian Myrtle (commonly in the wood industry) and Rose Myrtle. An example of the misnomer of common names... Myrtlewood is in the Myrtaceae family, this is actually a Southern Beech (Nothofagaceae), and they are not even related to each other at the higher Order level of classification. I have 3 blocks of it left that I could cut up and pick a mod block from. Finished al la naturale to bring out the depth of the color, grain and figure that varies throughout these ought to make for a nice VRmod.

I am thinking #3 (the last one) has a tight enough figure that it would be well displayed on a small mod.
Hope not!! You know me Always something a little different!!Nauti, are you causing everyone in line behind you to have to wait even longer and the maker frustration... again?
Last one for awhile and to get off the Tasmanian wood porn now that CloudFlare London or San Francisco is letting ECF refresh again.
My first choice in Taz wood would be from blocks I have that I wouldn't be able to get past NZ customs without some fairly demanding pre-ship work that I no longer have the health, equipment or supplies for. But after that work it would pass customs, and it would be easy wood for V to work with that would make an exceptional VRmod IMO.
Hi spydro, will come back with your questions tonight, but for this wood the way past customs is to simply put a layer of epoxy over the outside, it will all be taken out in the making, and if the voids are filled on the outside customs will treat it as finished wood, with no issue. Lovely selection by the way!Last one for awhile and to get off the Tasmanian wood porn now that CloudFlare London or San Francisco is letting ECF refresh again.
