The only way to fight politics is either through money or votes. If the vaping community came together under one association with a firm commitment from their members to vote out politicians who support these idiocies then you would get their ear quickly enough. Petitions are all fine and well but it all depends on what they say. If the top of the form said "Would you vote for _____ if he/she would support unregulating the vape industry" (or something to that effect) and you had 100,000 eligible voter names on it then you would see action.

Of course we could all just chip in and just bribe the buggers the way big tobacco has.

Petitions do not work.
At all.
They never have.

Vote locally. Be vocal.
Talk to candidates. Let them know where you stand.

Voting is the ONLY solution.

How well a Petition works is Dependent on 2 Things.

How well the Petition is Written.
How Many People Sign the Petition.

Petitions are just a Barometer that tells a Policy Maker how many people are Aware of an Issue. And how these people May Vote for a Policy Maker if given a Chance.

If a Petition does not receive a Substantial (or even a Relevant) amount of Signatures, of course a Petition will probably have Little Outcome. Telling people that "petitions do not work" is a Great Way to achieve this.

Sure, everyone should Contact their Reps and tell them how the feel about an Issue. But the Sad Fact is that the Vast Majority Do Not. But of that Vast Majority, many will sign a Petition.

So a Petition is part of the One Two Punch. Calls and Letters from the Active and Vocal. Supported by a Lists of Hundreds of Thousands Petition Signatures.

Thats a historical fact. Look for yourself.
Activism by proxy is historically useless againt a toerable government, even less, a corrupt one.

The only way to get a politicians attention is with your vote.
They dont fear your words. They dont care about threats (petitions).
They only thing that affects them is your actual vote.

No, i have a great memory, and history is an excellent teacher.

Petitions dont count.
Votes do.

If vapers that signed these petitions actually voted we could effect change.

Signing a petition does nothing when you fail to back it up.

Talk is cheap.

Well... Here's the Deal.

If Petitions don't work, like you say, and people Sign them Anyway, then Nothing Happens. And Nothing is Lost.

But if Petitions can Effect Change, and No One Signs them, then Nothing Happens also. But what was Lost was an Opportunity to Effect Change.

If you don't think Petition can work, Great, don't Sign any. Just Not Sure what the Motivation is to Tell Other People that they can't work?

How Does Other People Signing a Petition(s) that you are in Favor Of hurt you?

Never said it hurts anyone.
If it makes you feel better, the by all means sign away.
No harm at all.

Expecting a petition to chage anything isnt realistic.
Its the actual vote that has power, not a petition.

Petitions are incorrectly touted as a way to influence politics when history clearly shows the opposite.

Out of the thousands of petitions signed by millions of vapers so far, an you show me one that has effected any policy change?

Again, talking hasnt worked.
So enough talk.
Time to vote the criminals out of office.

OK. Maybe 500K Signatures was too Tall of an Order. Got One that has 200K?

What are you on about with your arbitrary numbers?

Add them up. Pages of signatures on pages of petitions.
My point still stands as fact.
Not a single one has done a thing.
Not even a response from a low level politician.
Waste of bandwidth.

But hey... It'll make you FEEL like youve done something.

Show me one vaping petition that got even a reply from any government official.
Doesnt even have to be a politician.
Anyone.

Just one.

You just Don't get it. A petition that gets 1,000 Signatures Isn't going to have any Impact.

Hey I don't have Anything against Grey Parrots, but if this Petition can get 60K in a Month, why can't we at least do the Same?

Tell CITES to end trade in wild African Grey Parrots! #SaveGreys

The Reason Is were Not Very Organized. And We don't have any support from Retailers.

And if you want a Link to a Vaping Petition that got a Response, here you go...

Regulation of Electronic Cigarettes by the FDA | We the People: Your Voice in Our Government

I bet they Laughed the Azz Off when they saw there was Only 36,009 on it. Probably figured that Nobody Cared what type of Regulation they would Enact.

You are right about two things:
No one that matters ( in position to effect change of policy or law) cares about petitions.
They have no weight.

And Vapers are not organized. If they were, they could vote and effect change.

Petitions have never changed laws.
Votes do that.

Vote if you want change.

IMO petitions serve only one valid purpose, and that is a "ballet initiative"

Truthfully, petitions and voting won't get much accomplished. Petitions can be filed away with lip service given to placate the signers. Voting might make a difference on a local or state level (I sure hope some folks in IN and PA don't get reelected) but is not going to swing a national election.

What will accomplish something is what has truly been effective over the years, money. Money is the way you fight over-regulation and burdensome taxation. Money that pays for lobbyists, talking heads for media, and legal fees to challenge both in court and under whatever appeal recourse is offered by a government agency. Because BT didn't get the results they want by petitions or pushing election issues. They got it with money.

    This isnt Switzerland.
In the US Federal law is introduced via legislature, not a petition.

US Federal law is the only context being discussed here.

    You vote is what matter.
    A petition will not work.

Anyone that tells you different is wrong.
Know your rights or lose them.
