You might want to look at craigslist in WA. The vehicles in eastern WA rarely see rain but get snow, western see tons of rain but almost no snow (or salt!). Just figure in the price for a rebuilt engine and trans, and tires for a 70-80's chevy and you can't go wrong. New parts are cheap and available in stock just about everywhere. Paint and interior? That's what Maaco, rhinoliner, and seat covers are for... Look through the old posts and you'll see Mutt's rhinolined battle wagon.

Test post . . .

sorry, I can't get to the last page for some reason????

That was weird . . .

Yeah, I keep looking. After the economy started sucking, people wanted ridiculous amounts for their used vehicles. I got a steal on my Cougar - rustbucket that it is, but the engine and tranny are in good shape, so that's why I got it.

I've got to finish my project bike really soon and get it sold to an eager new rider so I can get a truck. We had a 4 Runner, but - even though they last for ages - they don't do the best off-road and they suck to get around in.

I took a look through Craigslist and found that people have become far more realistic (or desperate) with pricing their vehicles. I might just be able to get into something this summer. Now I've got to get off my .... and finish my bike! It would be nice to find something with a 302, since that's what I've got in my Cougar. Not the optimum engine, but if I can have the same engine in both, it would be great to have engine parts coming along.

Nice Mutt! I like the texture on that.

Heres all of the pics I have of it: 75 ramcharger battle wagon pictures by muttsrt - Photobucket

I renamed it battle wagon, thanks Whynot!

I am thinking next weeks plan will lean towards B.O.V.'s. I have been doing some research on them and there are many, many options.

If by BOV you mean "bug out vehicle", then that is great! I'll need some modifications for my Jeep. She's not as comfy as our newer truck, but can get in & out of almost anywhere. I need a snorkle though.

I thought you'd already re-named it that when you originally posted pics about it last year. I remember that you'd done some pretty extensive work to it to make it your battle wagon..

I already mentioned it over the weekend, but this week, its BOV's or Bug Out Vehicles. Like most, my very first line of defense will be my home. But sooner or later, depending on the disaster, you will have to become mobile. A BOV is NOT a permanent vehicle. Fuel will dry up, vehicles will break down and eventually, they will all become works of modern art strewn across the country's roads, highways and back roads.

Choosing an appropriate BOV will depend greatly on where you live, and where you plan to go. Theres no need for a giant 4x4 if you live in the city and plan on storming the local home depot to set up your new shelter. The only thing you really need to consider is how many family/friends are buggin out with you and what supplies you plan on taking. You dont want a 2 seater if there are 4 members in your family.

Youtube is filled with lots of videos of BOV's. Here are a few examples:

YouTube - Shot Show 2011 bug out vehicle

YouTube - THE ULTIMATE BUG OUT VEHICLE (BOV) PART 1

YouTube - 4X4 Lifted Camper Van

YouTube - Bug Out Vehicle - Re-Inventing the Car Trunk

YouTube - evolution of my bug out vehicle

YouTube - THE ORIGINAL BUG OUT VEHICLES PART 1 JEFF THE CANUCK.mp4

YouTube - No fuel all terrain bug out vehicle

Now these are just a sampling of whats out there- bug out vans, bug out bikes, bug out 4x4's, bug out goats even converting a regular car trunk into a usable bug out space. The options are limitless and much like a BOB, there is no right or wrong choice. Sooner or later, once you leave your home and have to become mobile, to get to your next shelter location, you will need a BOV.

1. Montezuma's Castle - JANUARY
2. Quantico
3. Private Island
4. Home Front
5a. Cruise Ship
5b. University of Florida
6. Oparus underground shelter
7. Local Bar, make that a local STOCKED bar
8. Befriend Chuck Norris
9. Eliminate Mac before he creates super zombies
10. Zombie powered generator
11. Prepare for the first 72 hrs
12. Join Mac's Evil Minion- Buffet and Casino
13. Choose the right people
14. BOV's

Next week, unless theres a better idea submitted, we will talk about BOB's.

Good selection of videos!

How many people here have tailgaters? I haven't done that in a long time and really miss it. That is a really great way for you to come up with ideas for what your vehicle needs. If you are living out of your vehicle for the night, it really puts into perspective the things that would be handy/functional. Just like everything else, getting some practice in using it is extremely valuable.

I can tell you though . . . 4 Runners suck! Great vehicles that last forever, but they just aren't functional, but cars just seem to be worse. Even having picnics with the kids when they were younger, it is a pain to get in these things. My wife and I both had 4 Runners when we met, and we would have the worst time getting to stuff. I had a 71 Ford Ranger with a box that was great when my boy was a toddler! I wouldn't mind having one again - with a good shell on it, and some jump seats for the whole family to bug out in. I would definitely need 4 wheels working though, mine was only 2WD.

If we go with the BOB next week, survival storage might be good to add in also. Life would suck if there was only a week's worth of food in your house. You'd have to bug out really quickly then.

I can't belive I just now saw this thread. As you can tell by my zombie cat, this is my thing!

welcome aboard...be sure to check out dr evil zombies videos episodes 1 & 2 plus the ZPOTM for february. Good stuffs. Also post up any ideas for the next ZPOTW.

I just found this forum, too...WOW!! Our BOV < Heartland Toy Haulers | Heartland RVs It has a 30 gallon fuel station, two 30 gallon LP tanks...we're locked and loaded with guns/ammo...we head to family land in the wilderness in Idaho. Wild game to hunt, fresh water, farmland available... We live out the rest of our lives in Nature or until the CB or HAM radio says the Z-Apocalypse is over. (BTW we have a gas-station sized tank buried in the ground with attached to a fuel pump. There is a genny to run the pump. Y'all are welcome, just remember to wear a black cowboy hat and throw the 3 rocks, lol!

FYI: inventory your guns/ammo to make sure you have enough for each gun...don't want to have a .40 cal and only .22 ammo, etc.

If you aint careful, you and your family spread just may end up as ZPOTW. I already have the black cowboy hat.

LOL! The DH just said, the more hands to shoot guns, the better chances we all survive...but since we have several sniper AR's, we may have to set up a 'check point' somewhere to weed out the black hat rock-throwers from the riff raff...hmmm...will have to think about that one. Don't want the boys to shoot our ECF peeps. We already have a pond stocked with trout, water fowl nests, and there are enough farmers along the way we could sneak down and loot chickens/cows if we had to....ugg..a Zombie Cow! LOL!! Let's hope whatever disease turns only PEOPLE into zombies and not the 4-legged ones. That would drastically cut down on the food supply.

We ordered our toyhauler last week, so no zombies for another 4-6 weeks, please!
