Frankly, everyone in Alabama should oppose this bill for its infringement of private property rights and personal freedom. As for e cigs, what better proof is there that smoking bans are not and never have been about public health; it is about driving smokers from society, including anyone who...
From what I can find, the law banning smoking on airplanes is Federal Law 106-181, Sec. 252.3. In checking that, it simply states that "smoking" is banned on all domestic flights (which is why I no longer fly). It does not contain a definition of "smoking". However, Smokefree.gov does have...
Vocalek is correct - it's Sen. Lautenberg, who represents New Jersey where Johnson and Johnson is headquartered (makers of smoking cessation drugs). Lautenberg is also the one who first wrote the FDA asking e cigs be banned; now he's written the DOT asking they be banned from airlines. It's...
LynGBH, Bloomberg was a Democrat. He switched to being a Republican to run for Mayor so he could ride the coattails of Guiliani's popularity. He later switched again to being an Independent. He also got the City Council to overturn the two-term limit for Mayor so he could run yet again. He...
Reading the proposed law, it seems to me there are a couple of problems: Section 1399-MM-1 states the law prohibits products not defined as tobacco products: problem one for their side, the Federal Appeals Court has defined e cigs as tobacco products (as noted previously by other posters)...
Crumpet, welcome to the real world of the tobacco control cartel. Some honest people who have attended their meetings report they were told to ignore the science - the goal was to "denormalize" smokers, regardless of the genuine science about secondhand smoke, smoking-related deaths, etc...
Wait until they figure out such a law would require prescriptions to buy tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant and numerous other vegetables that contain nicotine.....
In April, 2010, the Virginia Attorney General declared e cigs do not violate the state smoking ban, so we now have both Iowa and Virginia where the state has declared it is "legal" to vape indoors. Only 48 states to go....
"Saint"? Makes it hard to stay humble, lol. The site owner is a good guy who works hard at finding places in Virginia where smokers are still welcome. I've tried a couple of them and the owners were fascinated with the e cig; they had heard of them, but had never seen one.
Perhaps you should contact both of them and ask them to provide the evidence that, legally, e cigs are considered tobacco products. That is what the entire pending court case is about - are they drug devices, as claimed by the FDA, or are they tobacco products, as claimed by SE and NJoy? If...
Good luck with the speech, $hua. Let us know how it goes. There is nothing more fun than messing with people's minds. Siegel has another blog today on the ALA and it's assault on the e cig. In his last paragraph he mentions the Big Pharma funding...I'd say the ALA has l.5 million reasons to...
I seriously doubt writing the ALA will do much good. A check of Pfizer's 2nd quarter donations (Pfizer makes Chantix and Nicotrol) shows the drug company gave the ALA over $l.5 million for their "smoking cessation" program in that quarter alone. The ALA is unlikely to heed the "little guy"...
Kristin, I can assure you he learned a lot about the e cig - probably more than he ever wanted to know, lol. I demonstrated how it worked, explained what was in it, and took it apart so he could see each element - that's why the segment included the broken down e cig in my hand.
The REAL...
